I am still here, lurking about, earning money, playing with unicorns.

Anyway I used to write a blog using wordpress about Nickel but I found it difficult (not the content but the usability). I have been reading a fair bit on blogging on here and looked through the epic blogging guide which is very useful.

I have been trying to write a book but think the stories I have to tell are much more blog material, so the content of the website would be funny racing industry tales, tales of the Unicorn, guides for practical horsecare/training, mindset/improvement. There is some demand for this and my facebook page dedicated to the Unicorn has been doing well so I thought maybe I could expand this. Have the website as a platform then share to FB, Twitter, Insta.

I think a hosting site is the way to go as I can see that will make things a lot more slick than just wordpress.

A few questions,
  • should I buy a domain name before signing up to a hosting site?
  • If I was to take up the HostPresto offer, can you downgrade you package after a year if you go for the top one to start (that does include a domain name)
I will have more questions coming up but just starting to think about putting it together. I would like to grow an income from it eventually.

Horse content probably has a good engagement : conversion ratio so I think it’s a good idea

yes nothing would stop you downgrading you’re packag, that’s fine

if you choose the promotion on here you choose the domain when you sign up :)

Thanks Jon, I have been reading your guide today and it is really useful. I was thinking as my real job has started to be affected by the Coronavirus and that is linked to matched betting (my job not the Coronavirus!) that now would be a good time to set in place more money earning potential.
My facebook page has had a fairly high traffic and the videos that I have made about products I use have gained me some freebies so people do see them. Pulling it all together could be the answer.
I have looked at a fair few of blogs on here and have a fair idea of what I like and don't like.

what I would say is focus more on blog content than design. Design can always be changed easily with a flip of a swich on what theme you are using but it's the content that dictates your Google traffic etc ;)
