I have ran a comp on my blog in April for existing and new subscribers to win a garden or theatre voucher to the value of £25. It is proving successful as I have inceased my subscribers to around 120 which in 2 months since starting my blog I am pleased about.

The comp or rather free prize draw has the usual terms and conditions and is something I would like to do on a a regular basis.

I tried to get 'free' products from companies but that did not work.

I want to run a new comp and wondering if I could just use a product with picutres of an item I have purchased for example I am thinking of doing a post on how people are now finding adult colouring books are helping peopel with stress. I was planning to purchase a few of these books with some pencils and felt tips and take a picture to promote the comp. It would again be a free prize draw for current subscribers and of course for new subscribers as well.

My question is can I purchase a product and take a picture and use that for the comp or is that a copyright issue.

Kind regards
GERRI

That is fantasic Gerri, you are doing really well. No idea about copy right issues, but promoting a product that can be won in a competition yourself seems like a fab idea

I can't think of any reason why you can't take a photo of the item and use that for the comp.

@katykicker usually knows about this sort of thing

I don't know the answer to the copyright question either, but like Jon, I would've thought that if you've bought it yourself and take a photo of it, then it shouldn't be a problem. If you pulled a picture of the item off the interweb and used it, then that would more than likely breach copyrights. Hopefully someone will be able to let you know for sure.
Let us know when your comp goes live, because this comping queen will grab her coat and head on over ;)

Hi @gerri.spiers welcome to you firstly! Sorry for the delay in replying.

If you're taking the photo yourself, of items you purchased, there should be no copyright infringement issues. Copyright belongs, usually, to the person who snaps the photograph.

Good luck with your competition!

Thank you. Yes I thought that was the case but as still new to blogging I wanted to be sure. I would not be mentioning where I purchased the items from so I will do that. It always looks better with pictures.

The April comp I did was generic vouchers for gardening or theatre tokens. Went very well and got new subscribers. I thought if I ran a small comp each month then the subscibers will stay (obv hoping they enjoy the posts as well!) It was just one way of getting new subscribers.

My april comp (plug plug!!!) runs until 11pm tomorrow night and is below
