Hey All

So I attempted to do MB about a year ago. Did all of the reading, watched the videos and created a Coral and Betfair accounts. I kind of chickened out and didn’t managed to make a bet, so I wasted my free bets

Now, I am willing to take the plunge but I don’t have any free bets with Coral and Betfair. Can I just use another site, say Betvictor, they seem to have an offer on at the moment for new customers.

Do I just deposit enough to cover my ‘losses with Betfair?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Honestly, if you now can't use the free bets with Coral or Betfred then I would just pay for a months PA membership and plough through the rest of the £1000 sign up offers. You will MORE than make the £17.99 in 30 days so that cost will become completely irrelevant if that makes sense.

Thanks Jon. I have signed up for PA, I will probably upgrade my account.

Smarkets has an offer for new customers - I was thinking of signing up with them as well.

Is it normal to be this nervous when starting out?

It’s normal to feel nervous whenever you start anything new!

If you need an incentive, I started in Jan, and I'm currently up to £3700 profit. I work full-time, so can't devote as much time to it as others. Others have made a lot more than me.

Thanks @NRS - that has definitely incentivised me!!! I am trying to find the right sites to sign up to now.

@Jon i have a full account with PA now. I am looking at either creating a smarkets or matchbook account.

Matchbook is offering 0% commission and smarkets new customer offer is £10 but I have to deposit £20. I get the £10 when I make a loss. Not sure which one to go for.

There is generally a lot more in the market with smarkets

Survived my first bet only took me two hours to complete, partly because my computer is on the outs m. Anyway, I used BetVictor and smarkets and won the lay bet. I have £29.32 in my account and £60 of free bets in BV. I’ve made my first bet - the odds were kind of low because I don’t have very much in my account. Now I’m trying to work out how to use my other free bets, one of which includes a casino bonus.

Thank you for your help so far.

Sorry I have another quick question, I’ve read other threads where you said your initial invest was around £50-60. Did you deposit that money into your lay account? i am thinking of depositing an additional £30 so that I can make another couple of bets rather than waiting. Is this too risky?

It’s not risky as the money isn’t at risk so if you can afford to use it then go for it!

Crap! I messed up already! I deposited more money in my lay account to make another bet, found the bet and then was unable to use the free money in my other BV account.

So I’ve now made a bet on SM without a counter bet *screams*. I feel so stupid. Is there anyway I can rectify this?

Use trickybet and then place a back bet with whatever bookie you want

The easiest thing to do would be to back the same amount on the same selection in smarkets so the two balance, then start again and find another bet to do. You will win or lose a few pence depending on how the odds have changed.

For future reference always place your back bet at the bookmakers first before you place the lay.

So this is salvageable, @Jon and @homie?Thank goodness for that. I’ll check our both options and see what works best for me.

My apologise for being a typical annoying newbie and thanks again for your help.

I looked into doing what you suggested but the odds vary so greatly that I don’t think it will counter the bet.

I bet £7.30 against New England @5.8, the odds for betting against New York are @1.62.

No, you need to back New England for £7.30, so the two bets cancel each other out. Laying New York will put you in an even bigger hole should the match end in a draw.

There is no rush when matched betting, please take your time. I made a few mistakes starting out by trying to rush things, but it will get easier with time and experience :)

Arrghhh  talk about steep learning curve. I think that's what I meant...anyway - I have countered the bet by backing New England. Thanks again.
