Hey guys,

I'm an avid reader and have a lot of books that are in a decent condition that I would like to sell on. When I look at the 'official' book reselling sites they are only worth a couple of pence. Has anyone sold books on any other platform and gotten a decent amount for them?

Thanks!

There's too much competition from the likes of world of books. Unless you have something rare you'll struggle to get a decent price sadly.

Search for your books on Amazon and you'll soon see if there is any value to them. Common books will only sell for pennies but harder to find books are worth selling on there. Amazon seller fees are high though. Ebay is another option.

Thanks for the replies. I thought that would be the case. I wasn't sure whether sticking them on somewhere like eBay or Depop for a few quid may be more fruitful.

Over the years I have sold many books on ebay. They do need to be something a bit different however. One way to check books out is go to bookfinder.com and see what the dealers are asking.

You might have some luck with textbooks but Amazon is so competitive on price from themselves and the marketplace unless you have something rare or unique it may be a struggle.

Ziffit is an app which is easy and is the best of its kind. However, it doesn't pay nearly as much as eBay or Amazon,

I used to sell books and make a couple of hundred pounds a month but gave up because it was difficult to cover postage. To make any money on Amazon you either need to find a niche market or sell sufficient to become a professional seller so you don't pay the individual item fee and get cheaper postage.

Supply definitely exceeds demand and most charity shops sell books for about £1.00. I think E readers helped kill the market.

Amazon has a tool to check what is it worth by entering ISBN number.
Personally myself, I wanted to get into reselling books, but it wasn’t as easy as it looks like.
I have no idea where my local carboor sales guy getting recent and decent books from and making living from selling them for 50p.

Probably getting paid to do house clearances.

I sell only on ebay for books. It is not as easy as it was and you need to find decent items. Most of my stuff does NOT have ISBN numbers so, you can't scam them. I do know someone that sells books full-time, but it is labour intensive. He procures lots of charity rejects for nothing and then puts them on Amazon and various other sites and sells them for 1p (on Amazon) and makes his profit through postage. He employs various people to help list and pack them. He has two warehouses full of books. Too much hard work for me, but he makes a living from it.

I have a customer, who does exactly the same with VHS tapes. I’m doing deliveries for him and looking after 40ft shipping container with 60k tapes in it

Funny thing is that if them kept as it should be (dark and dry) they can outlast any kind of storage used at the minute but cloud. No CD or DVD can last that long (simply peels off with time) and some of them are worth serious money, especially those about Nazi or very old and not digitised horror movies.
Most valued are those with Police was confiscating and burning years ago ‍♂️

Hi Shedders,
I am having a clear out of books. Most of them are academic text books and are in good condition. I am not interested in selling them one by one on Amazon or some such so I am going to zap them all on Ziffit, We By Books and music Magpie to see who can offer me the best price. If anyone knows of any other apps for books that have given you a decent price could you let me know and I will get zapping.

I will report back on the final prices offered once I have completed my zap-fest.

Thanks,
An-na

Hi Andrew,
I'm sure you have said something of value in regards to my book zapping but it seems to be written in invisible ink ;)

I compared these 3, and also Momox when I had a clear out.
Have had payment from all 4, just FYI :)

It's what happens when I try and write on my phone! I was saying if you google Ziffit 10% you'll get a link to a webpage that gives you a 10% increase in what they offer.

Oops, I forgot to report back in on my zap-fest
Here are the results:

Ziffit - £88.02
We Buy Books - £74.32
Music Magpie - £67.00

Ziffit accepted all my books while We Buy Books and Music Magpie didn't.
So I will be going with Ziffit. I was hoping to get a 10% or 15% extra code so I messaged them. They replied that they do not have any codes at the moment. So I will wait a bit longer as I think they will send a code out by Easter. I'm in no rush as these books have been hanging around for a while.

I could get an extra 10% in 24 hours bonus if I use their website but I don't fancy entering in all the ISBN numbers by hand. I want to use the app and zap and be done.
