I took the plunge and have started my blog (http://www.kathyskitchen.uk/) still very much under construction with lots of content still to be added!

Now starting to think about about SEO for it.

Having done a bit of googling Yoast seems to be the most popular one & just wondered if anyone had any other recommendations or experince with it?

Thanks

Kathy

Nice looking blog [member=2823]katbythesea[/member]

Clear, crisp layout and easy to read content. All looking great!

Yoast is all I have ever used can't see any reason why I would use anything different. It's great at what it does..

Yes Yoast is good. I have also found a WordPress Plugin that puts keywords in the Header of your Blog so have found that useful. You can add keywords too.
Also make sure you manually submit your Blog to all the search engines.
I get a few newsletters from that which gives helpful tips on improving your SEO.

Nice clean design and good mix of recipes [member=2823]katbythesea[/member] :)

I use Yoast and find it really easy to use and like the traffic light system and analysis with pointers on how you can improve rankings. Yoast automatically analyses your page when you update it and will turn green if it considers you have met enough criteria for a good search ranking. You can also submit your page to Google, Bing, etc.

I recently set up a money saving blog www.smartwithcash.co.uk

I've been looking into SEO too, seems like a massive subject and I'll definitely give that Yoast a try, what other plugins would you recommend?

I've actually got a number of sites, but I've taken an interest in a personal blog lately

http://www.workhardplayharder.co.uk - my personal blog

Is there a back to basics beginner guide to Yoast that anyone recommends?

I installed the plug in and it might as well all be in a Foreign language, I find it very confusing!

Do people use the free Yoast or pay for? I'm just looking it up now so trying to decide it's worth
I use the free one and it helps me make sure my blog posts look good. I've recently been in the top 2 or 3 results for the TopCashBack Treasure hunt answers ... I put that solely down to Yoasting it up!

Just around this topic I am currently stuck in SEO Yoast HELL at the moment.

It's 100% my own fault but I've got about 300 (out of 500+ blog articles) with no keyword or meta description instead it's just doing the usual thing of 'Google' taking what it thinks I want in the Meta description.

Am trying to do 25-50 a day at the moment to get them all green in Yoast but man alive this is a hell of a slog

Top tip guys and gals, get your SEO right from the start!!

I've got much fewer than you but I know the first load of them were before I installed Yeost. I'm not looking forward to cleaning those up.

It's a nightmare I tell ya

I'm basically opening 25-30 tabs at a time and just ploughing through them

On the plusside, I see the 'meta description' as my chance to 'sell the post' when it appears on the google listing

I struggle with what to write for meta descriptions.
How do you peeps usually structure them?

Also, while I'm on the subject I need to do image Alt text etc apparently.

Totally lost with these.

So Alt image is one thing I messed up on and when you have 400+ images without one you are :eek::eek::eek::eek:

So I just used this plugin to do it all automatically https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-alt-attribute/

In terms of meta images I find it quite easy so if
the blog is about 'saving money on a new car'
The keyword term is 'getting a cheap car'

The meta I would write would be half description half lure
There are lots of different ways of getting a cheaper car in these times. No matter if you are looking to PCP and Lease deals or buying the car outright you can use the following tricks and tips to get more bang for your buck and then.....

My meta descriptions have one set of keywords in them.

Basically make them very informative but stick to green on Yoast. Google will sometimes just take a different snippet off your website regardless.
