Not sure if this the right section to ask but do you put a disclosure when you share affiliate links on social media? I've shared my first one and added it but it was a struggle to fit it in to Twitter with the character limit. Any short examples?

Well not necesarly but its not advised to put direct links on social media as first soacial media networks will clasify you as a spammer and this its not good .Second people dont like this as they dont like to be sold give them some sort of value and at the end ask if they want to check your affiliate offer

Thanks. It's not products but services so if people sign up, I get a kickback. I add a blurb at the start to say how I've found it useful. It's also on a business page not personal profile so not sure if the spam links rule apply to pages too

Yes, you need to be disclosing that the link is an affiliate link as per ASA guidelines. I'm pretty sure the ASA require "affiliate" rather than anything shorter, sometimes you'll see #aff but that isn't good enough. Great video here and I'm going to tag @katykicker as she's probably the best to answer this ;)

I know Mrs Hinch contacted eBay Partner Network and they told her it's #ad #sponsored or #advertisement

Even #affilite isn't considered clear enough. I personally use #affiliate atm on Twitter etc for affiliate only posts but I'm going to switch to #ad I think.

My opinion (not that it is worth anything) is that an Advertisment is different to some sort of affiliate programs. An advertisment is something you are paid to promote, regardless of the engagement. An Affiliate program is something you are paid IF someone buys something through something you promote.

I know the ASA is struggling to keep up with 'the new future', but if footballers/models/actors/influencers all get, at best, a strongly worded email with a slap on the wrist, then I'm not sure I'll worry too much about it.

So far I've had no '#ads' but I do have some '#affs' on my blog post. A bit like GDPR, if the test case put forward to the courts is a blogger who put out the occasional blog post with the wrong disclaimer and not the many companies who promote/pay 'proper' influencers then the system is fucked up! :D

p.s. that is not legal advice.

p.p.s. I'm off to go check whether I have an Affilliates disclaimer on my blog!

Thanks @katykicker , @Chammy and @The Reverend
I do have a disclosure section on my blog post it has affiliate links. My query was for when I shared the affiliate links directly on social media not via the blog post. I was using a proper sentence to say it is an affiliate link not hashtags (didn't think of hashtags) which is why I was after something shorter. I will continue disclosing with a full sentence on Facebook but might use hashtag on twitter if I am tight on space :D

Use TinyURL or a similar site to shorten the links you are sharing

My comment was meant for Social Media. I always have a full sentence on Facebook along the lines of "If you click the link I may earn something if you purchase, this doesn't change how much you pay" but I don't often share affiliate links on Twitter because of how quickly everything goes on there.

I'm talking about social media too. #ad is the one to use :)

I personally don't directly post affiliate links on social media, as I wouldn't personally do it. If you just copy and paste your affiliate link, sometimes social networks don't like this and will consider you a spammer (past experience). My affiliate links are in content I link to on social media and the fact that these are affiliate links are made clear on my website. But, to answer your question if you post affiliate links on social media, I'd make your audience aware of it. Usually #ad #advert #affiliate should do the trick.
