Hi all,

I am not sure if this counts as direct selling or not but I figured I would ask.

Are there any Slimming World consultants on here that are willing to share their experiences of running their groups etc. What are the start up costs and training commitments? I noticed that a lot of people ask these questions on other forums but no one seems to give a straight answer. Did they sign a non disclosure agreement?!

Sorry [member=3924]drcee[/member] , only just noticed this.

Can't answer all your questions but a friend of mine is a SW consultant. She handed out a leaflet in group last week about becoming a consultant as they are really desperate for new ones in my area. I don't have the leaflet any more but the investment was £1,500 with an estimated income of £100-£400 a week (which I guess depends on the size of your group). I think she said her training course was for a week. She's been doing it for a year & loves it - says it's the best decision she ever made. Go along to one of the no-obligation opportunity events or have a chat to your consultant. http://www.slimmingworld.co.uk/information/careers/become-a-consultant.html

I'm an ex SW consultant. Yes the franchise fees are roughly £1500 to start up. You have to travel regularly to Head Office the costs of travel and accommodation are met by you, not the company, the recommended hotel is £50 per night including breakfast. There are good returns for your money if you get a large group and a good team developer that will help you. You have to do leaflet drops regularly and you have to do them personally when they tell you and pay for your own leaflets to be printed via SW.

If your group is small then you make next to nothing. SW pay half of your room rent for where you host your group. If you have less than 25 members, you will be on the lowest earnings. I only had more than 25 members in my group roughly 3 times in a year and the max I earned a week was £65, it averaged £15 - £20. When you take in to account the money spent in the first place to buy the franchise, at the end of the year, I was still £300 in debt.

You could always start your own slimming group. Just buy some trousers ten sizes too big and take a photo. You'll have people flocking to sign up. ;D

Thanks to all for your comments. I was just curious to see how much everything was. By the sounds of things, I don't have the time to do all the extras e.g. leafleting. If the returns are potentially that poor, I won't bother!
