I love to cook from scratch, but don't have much time (and particularly in the week). I also work from home half the week, so although I don't have time to cook in the evening, I often have time in the morning or at lunch.

I was considering buying a slow cooker so I can still have nice food cooked from scratch in the week.

A good idea? Does anyone else do this? Is it really easy? I am nervous about buying something I then don't use.

I need to get a new one

We’ve used the same one for 4+ years but it but the bullet in March for us

You can get them pretty cheap to be fair . We used to use it for casseroles and Sunday roasts

I know @katykicker swears by them!

I love my slow cooker. I’ve just upgraded to one which sears the ingredients on the hob first to save using a separate pot. Admittedly I haven’t tried doing it on a timer to come on during the day as not sure how I feel about the ingredients sitting there, but i usually spend ten mins prepping and then bung it all in ad leave it. I need to widen my repatoir but my few staples are well worth it.

I use mine lots. For a quick evening meal, I often chuck in a couple of chicken breasts, and a can of curry sauce in the morning, then its ready when I come home and the chicken is really tender and tasty.
I also do lots of stews and casseroles. Him indoors loves corned beef hash - can of corned beef, onions, potatoes, carrots, can of baked beans and enough stock just to moisten it up. - yum.

Which one have you got? There seems to be loads of different ones out there.

I've got a triple slow cooker and I LOVE IT! I've got this one: https://amzn.to/2MSkF9U (It's got the 2.1L pots though)
It's prefect for the 3 of us and I can sometimes do batch cooking if the mood takes me too!

Cheers. I've been looking into them and think this one looks like good value for money. Think I'll get the same one!
I’ve done a spag bol in it today and was good. The market is a bit of a mine field but I’d certainly recommend one which sears so you don’t need to use two pots!!

Definitely get a sear and stew! Great to brown the meat first (which helps the taste). Also, I've got a TON of recipes on my blog that are low in sugar etc, so ideal for you both!

OOh.. thanks, I will check those out! Can't wait to get it ordered and get more food cooked from scratch. That'll be another thing off my life change wish list.

Got mine off freegle and it's ace1 Always worth checking eBay local for anyone auctioning theirs off at 99p Give it a try for a pound and if you don't like it you've not lost much.

I love my slow cooker. Use it at least 3 times a week. I do all sorts in it, soup, casserole, stew, bolognese, rice pudding, curry, etc. I’ve even done a toad in the hole in it before. It makes my life so much easier!

I was looking at slow cookers again yesterday in Sainsburys and Morrisons

They seem to really want to just sell their own brand ones which i can't tell if they are actually decent or just rebadged unknown brand ones (like Argos do with Alba stuff) - They are a decent prize (£20 for 5lt) but I just don't know if I'd rather pay £5-£10 more for a Morphy Richards one lol

I honestly couldn’t live without mine. I prepare all my food the night before and then chuck it in the slow cooker in the morning (on the low setting) and then I don’t have to worry about dinner all day. I just come back later and it’s sitting there ready. I even have a ragu recipe which I put on the night before.

Plus most leftovers can be frozen
