When I was growing up in the 80s/90s I don’t remember there ever being as many energy companies as we have now (like of like how we used to have 4 TV channels!)

Is anyone on here with one of these firms and worried? We’ve always stayed with e-on as whenever we’ve looked at these smaller firms the price difference was super small anyway.

maybe we will just end up going back to having the big 4 energy suppliers and that will be it!

it!
The energy companies weren't privatised until I think 1990, so before then everyone's energy was supplied by British Gas, and electricity by your local Electricity board. There were only a handful of new suppliers at first. I remember my mum thinking the electricity you received would be somehow different if you went with a different company. I think we stayed with same companies for ages, people didn't switch about as much pre internet. I still remember phoning up several different insurance companies to get the best quotes for my first car insurance. Then just stayed with that one Yes - actual phone calls to a human being. No Meercats in the early 90s

There's nothing to worry about if your supplier goes bust. Its not like the power will suddenly go off. The biggest concern will be getting another deal to compete with your previous contract, as all the prices are shooting up. I think Ofgem automatically assign a new supplier to you but you can switch if you want. I'm with EON too so not expecting any problems with them.

Oh. And if you see Sid, tell him

Just watching the news and they were explaining that the big energy companies (british gas, EDF, E-On etc. ) all buy their gas up front which is why they tend to cost more while the likes of bulb / octopus etc will often buy it on the stock exchange so can offer cheaper prices but live on a knife edge a lot of the time!

Avro Energy and Green have collapsed today!

Others that have also collapsed include People's Energy, Utility Point, PfP Energy and MoneyPlus Energy.

We're with Bulb, have been for years and are waiting it out. They're the 6th biggest energy company in the world so hopefully, they'll find the funding they need. If not, then heyho, we go elsewhere.

We stayed with British gas for gas and electricity as they are very good to their older customers. You can get priority boiler repairs.

I think I was really lucky with the fix rate I've had for the last year. Its more expensive for another fix rate for the year. That's just the price for the standard one.

wonder if we will see anymore go to the wall this week.

I feel like the fuel crisis has sort of diverted everyones attention away from energy companies going bust!
