Hello!
My smartphone has died (or rather, the micro USB port has). I can no longer charge it. I had quite a few apps on it, including cashback ones... with 'money' on them!
That smartphone was my first one, and I'd like to replace it with something similar (i.e. an Android)… but cheaper. I wouldn't use it for phone calls (I use bog standard cell phones), only for apps, and for internet browsing when out and about.
Does someone have a recommendation? I'd like to spend under £100 but I want something which is durable. I want a SIM-free one, and I would only be using it at home, or where there is free wifi.
Thanks in advance.

Replace the charging port. It will cost £20 from a phone shop (not big shops) kr you can buy the part for £3 and fit it in yourself

If you want a decent NEW phone for £100, go for a xiaomi or nokia one. The nokia 6 should be around that price.

Still cant see past my 3 year old Huawei, just miles better than any phone i have ever had... i dropped this into a tank of diesel... no issues, not a scratch on it and i drop phones constantly...photos are stunning and battery life is just insane!. Before you splash out though, as said take it to a repair shop, my Samsung had same trouble, took it to get a new charge port, turned out it had fluff in it, a 2 minute clean and it was fine...free repair

Sometimes the port just gets dirt and whatnot in it that needs to be blown out. Assuming that isn't the case, depending on the phone it's possible you could use a wireless charging pad. You can pick them up on Amazon for around £10. The phone has to be Qi enabled to work.

I've already tried cleaning the port. I've also looked at charging pads, I think my phone might be too old (it's a Sony Xperia Z3 which I bought in 2014). Thanks for the suggestions all the same!

The Z3 is a great phone. Sony have really good reliability but their a little pricey.
yeah i agree the sony ones really are reliable. Stepson had one for years and then another and they never broke in all that time. Top-quality!

Totally agree. I got it at a discounted price on Amazon, it was brand new, but I think the seller needed to empty their stock (for inventory purposes) before the end of the year! If I divide the price of the phone by the number of years I've been using it... it's a bargain. Also I've been able to use it as a camera :)

Sony cameras are world class...

Fun fact: in 2001, steve jobs asked the CEO of sony if apple could put macOS on vaio laptops. At the time Sony refused because apple was a strugling company and sony was a market leader.

Have you considered a secondhand / refurbished SIM free phone?
You could always marry it up with a Localphone account for very cheap calls/ texts on WIFI.
