I think the GPs are going to get through far more people this week (and the following weeks) than people are thinking

They basically have 3 days from when the vaccine arrives at the GP to give it to someone!

GPs are really going to struggle as they will still have to see normal patients as well. I hope they are going to get extra staff in to help with this. This 3 day window for each vaccine is going to be so stressful for them.

Greater London and parts of Essex and Hertfordshire will move to Tier 3 due to a “very sharp, exponential rises” in cases, Matt Hancock tells the House of Commons.

The increase in London does worry me and I am wondering whether I should just cancel, my parents are elderly and I am nervous yet they really want us to come over............

I've just discovered that our regional vaccination centre is less than a mile away. That'll be handy when the time comes :)

Other half had a bit of a disappointment though, because daughter and I are in the extremely clinically vulnerable group, he's not allowed to be a vaccinator because of the risk of bringing it home to us :(

Where are we up to with Christmas rules?

Rules around Christmas bubbles have been thrown into confusion following updated guidance from the devolved nations.
Prime minister Boris Johnson has insisted that there will be a ‘four-nation approach’ to any relaxing of the rules, but it appears that may not be the case.

Here’s what we know so far:
  • According to the PM’s spokesperson, “there will be no changes to the laws around forming Christmas bubbles”. That means that the regulations which allow up to three households forming a bubble for five days between December 23 and 27 are still in place.
  • However, first minister Mark Drakeford has announced that in Wales “only two households should come together to form an exclusive Christmas bubble”. That signals a change in guidance - but, as the PM said, no change in the law.
  • In Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon said that her “strong recommendation” is that people do not mix households over the period.
  • No 10 has defended its earlier claim that the four nations were ‘unanimous’ in their position - updated guidance in the devolved nations is “a matter for them”, the PM’s spokesperson said.
  • We are still expecting to get a joint statement from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland at some point this afternoon. It is understood that the statement will urge that a ‘smaller Christmas is a safer Christmas’.
  • Boris Johnson will be holding a press conference at 3.30pm this afternoon. It’s understood he will use it to set out his own approach for England.

Lancashire will remain in England's toughest tier of coronavirus restricitions, local leaders have been told.

The county will continue to be under tier three - which limits household contacts indoors and sees hospitality largely limited to takeaway and delivery services.

I can't see any of the Tier 3 regions lifting now until at least all of Group 1 is vaccinated, if not Group 2 as well, especially as they're graded on the number of over 60s infected.
