EVERYONE, self employed or not should have 3 months worth of savings available in case of an emergency, to cover bills and normal living costs. The amount of people saying they already have no money left to feed their family, pay rent etc after just one month has really surprised me.

We are ALL going to be paying a lot more tax for a long time once this is over, that's for sure. Not just the self employed.
I think margins are so tight for a lot of small businesses so they don’t always have 3 months spare income

I tell you who this is gonna to backfire for. Tradesmen who take payments off the books and don’t declare it as they will now get a lot less in this payout

3 months mortgage holiday applied for. I can't continue to feel sick about this and out of control. For the record I do have savings and am happy to use them, but they were for paying husband tax and NI. Deferring it for months on end will mean a bigger amount to pay and who knows when earnings will go back to normal so I would still rather use my savings for those intents and purposes. So I have a fall back net but if I use it, how do I pay to service the car, the work vehicle etc etc. It's a slippery slope and no-one knows what to do for the best right now and everyones situation is entirely different to the next. So let's not judge people for how much or how little they have put aside and encourage and support as we steer our way through this really stressful and upsetting time.

Absolutely. Lessons to learn when this is over but right now let's just do our best to support each other, point out opportunities when we find them and have laugh when we can on here!

Well Boris Johnson and Matt Hancock now have the coronavirus.

UPDATE on coronavirus (#COVID19) testing in the UK: As of 9am 27 March, a total of 113,777 have been tested: 99,198 negative. 14,579 positive.

As of 5pm on 26 March, of those hospitalised in the UK, 759 have sadly died.

Don't think it's nice people wishing Boris ill health now he's got Corona, was bound to happen.

I'm still interested to know the geographical breakup in the UK of both people who have been tested > infected and also those that have died > tested for coronavirus

I still maintain the bulk of this issue seems to be in London but I see they are now making hospitals in Birmingham and Manchester so who knows!

Well, this is gonna be a MAJOR bummer!

They don't even deserve a single dime but they will get away with it.

I just esen this through my Linkedin network if anyone has been self-employed for less than a year, it might come handy

Looks like the government have changed what they are saying / their position in the last hour lol

However, the Transport Secretary told MPs he can't rule out the state taking an ownership stake in UK airlines that have been battered by coronavirus.

Grant Shapps told MPs on the Transport Select Committee that nothing had been ruled out in its response to coronavirus for the aviation sector.

Asked by Labour MP Ruth Cadbury if the government would consider buying a share of UK airlines that face collapse, Mr Shapps said: "It was important to save companies that would survive in normal times.

I think they will end up buying a stake in VA

And a stake is the least they could do - Shareholders cannot get the share buyback/benefit without the burden

I do a Flusurvey each week (asks if you have symptoms, so they can map spread) They asked today if we would be willing to self test for Corona as a big government initiative to see just how many people actually have this thing. Not sure what the tests will show though, as I'm pretty sure we've already had it and recovered.

New York has got the 'London' problem.

I'm surprised how many states have got less than 100!

I think it will spread in America as they don't have a unified policy across the country sadly, States are all doing their own thing plus without a NHS, a lot of people won't test as it's too expensive. It is still relatively early days for them. They are about 2-3 weeks behind us.

I try to limit myself to the morning and around 5pm, as I am the same it makes me all jittery and I still need to go out to get medicine and shopping (although managed to get online delivery), but feel like even going to the supermarket I am not helping anyone and really feel for the supermarket staff who are dealing with people every day all day.

I agree with you about the supermarket staff. They are pretty much in the firing line for germs and bugs. I haven't seen any abuse towards staff but you do hear about it happening don't you.

I've tried not reading up on the virus and what is happening but it is proving very difficult, it really does mess with your head. My mum is stressed out because of it all, she's not well either and I keep telling her to no stress out, with her high blood pressure it's not good. Let's hope this disease is eradicated quickly and people can rebuild and get on with life.

A little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing, and we are deluged with it. Glad I don't buy newspapers.

Was there a virus related film a way back called "Cassandra Crossing"? Something about a train with infected passengers and it wasn't allowed to stop. It must have seemed a bit far-fetched at the time in the 70's.

I'm glad that I don't ready many newspapers, the only sites I go on for news is Sky news, Manchester Evening News, Oldham Chronicle/Oldham News and The Guardian and something the The Telegraph.

Early indications appear to show that the coronavirus epidemic in the UK appears to be starting to slow down, a scientist who has been advising the government on the outbreak has said.

Professor Neil Ferguson, of Imperial College London, said the slowing of the spread of coronavirus was the result of the social distancing measures brought in by the government.

He told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme:

In the UK, we can see some early signs of slowing in some indicators – less so deaths because deaths are lagged by a long time from when measures come in force.programme.
But if we look at the numbers of new hospital admissions, that does appear to be slowing down a bit now.
It has not yet plateaued, so still the numbers can be increasing each day but the rate of that increase has slowed.”
He said the government is ‘within days’ of having an antibody test available which is a finger prick test.
