This has prompted me to get off my fat butt and start delivering some singing and theory teaching via Zoom. And turn the theory teaching into a course that I can scale up and sell to people that aren't already my students as well. Not sure either thing would have occurred to me without a) Coronavirus, or b) this platform.

Now to buy a nice room divider screen to put in the space behind my piano so I don't need to do any extra housework...

Up to 163 now

I'm amazed they haven't cancelled Crufts / Sporting events this weekend!
I do have a problem with the way they are reporting this number, it includes all the people that had it and have recovered like the 'superspreader' so it can only go up and spark panic. A much better way of reporting would be active cases.

Makes for 'good' news, innit.

I nip into the Guildhall fairly frequently, so theoretically may have been exposed to it last week. It's a haven for germs and crud of all kinds at the best of times, however.

The Jubilee Line was like a TB ward on Wednesday evening. I am of the opinion it's out there, rampant, and if you get a resp infection over the next few weeks assume it's Covid-19 and stay indoors.

The media are causing people to overreact with their sensationalist reporting, because it sells papers etc. Then they report the panic-buying which fuels it further. Obviously there's always the worry that this could mutate into something more sinister to the general population, but as it stands it's the elderly and people with underlying health problems who are most at risk.

I lead a team of microbiology and molecular biology technicians in teaching labs at a uni. On Monday I used my Amazon Prime account to buy some hand washing gel for our changing room next to the lab. It hadn't arrived today, so I contacted them to find out why the delivery date was now April. I was told they normally sell about 20 per week, but the NHS have commandeered 100,000 units and they aren't allowed to sell to anybody else at this time!

I think you're spot on there. I walked into town in the week and nearly everyone was coughing. Only people who are returning from affected areas or who have been in close contact with somebody who has tested positive seem to be offered a test at the moment. For the rest of us, if we get symptoms, we're pretty much left to it. We've all had 'something'. A cough that won't give up, temps, feeling crap, so yeah, I agree with you that it's out there and living it large. :)

The nature of my main job is that I'm working with people who are flying all round the world all the time. I might as well put out the welcome mat.

I think it's also the reason the death rate in countries like Italy looks so high - 4.34% (or thereabouts) of those they've TESTED have died. That's not accounting for the thousands wandering around with the slight sniffles who feel largely fine and therefore haven't even considered they've got COVID-19.

The reality is that there are all sorts of viruses already out there so a campaign to get us all to wash our hand is long overdue! Not too please with people offering alcohol gel on eBay for eye-watering prices. Will stick to good old soap which is more effective anyway.

Welcome to the world of the opera singer. We've all been washing our hands like Lady Macbeth for years ;)

Can't seem to get latex gloves in any shop today (my latest public transport safety wheeze as I'm an habitual hair-fiddler and can't seem to consciously break the habit - unlikely to do it if there's the whiff of latex nearby!). Thankfully, still reasonably priced stock on Amazon.

Also, pound shop almost out of bars of soap. We were all being awfully polite and breaking up multipacks once through the tills to make sure everyone had some. Because keeping yourself safe by washing your hands kind of relies on everyone else washing *their* hands too.

I think that's lovely. I am more convinced now that the problem isn't going to be the virus but the minority that behave irrationally.
