My partner is working at one of the testing labs. Apparently they've had to void a lot of the ones sent back from the home kits because people were pouring the solutions away from the sample tube which was used to preserve the swab. Those would still be included in the tests "done". I wouldn't want to do what she does in that lab...some of the swabs have some nasty looking stuff on them...

With the rave in Leeds, I was more bothered with the litter afterwards more than anything. They could have at least taken their rubbish with them.

Blimey, I bet it makes for interesting conversation in the evenings!

As for the rubbish, there will always be idiots that don't clean up after themselves.

Key developments in coronavirus outbreak

In other coronavirus developments:

– Health Secretary Matt Hancock confirmed there could be “local lockdowns” in future if the test and trace system identifies coronavirus hotspots

– Mr Hancock said he will speak to the Treasury about whether fines imposed on families travelling for childcare purposes during lockdown should be reviewed in light of the Dominic Cummings controversy

– A witness to the alleged lockdown breach by Mr Cummings said he has been interviewed by police
– Boris Johnson said an independent inquiry into the origins of the coronavirus outbreak needs to take place

This morning they are saying the local lockdowns could be a school or workplace, that is VERY local!

I don't see how that could work. Everyone will have family in other locations so why would they not have to close down as well?

Rapid coronavirus testing kit 'one step closer'

A rapid coronavirus testing kit which can detect the presence of Covid-19 in six different people every 30 minutes is a step closer to coming to market, experts have said.

The portable device can be used in areas with large concentrations of people, like care homes, big employers and airports.

Brunel University London, Lancaster University and the University of Surrey have joined forces with GB Electronics (UK) Ltd, Inovo Robotics and Unique Secure to develop the inexpensive, rapid diagnostic test kit and make it widely available.

The new partnership will bring together industry and academic experts in the fields of electronic and software engineering, diagnostics, virology, robotics and artificial intelligence to fast-track the development.

The portable testing device can carry out six highly accurate tests every 30 minutes, and quickly determine if someone has Covid-19.

It will enable those who test positive to self-isolate quickly, helping to reduce the spread.

Results from the current virus detection tests normally take several hours to process.

Clinical tests in three NHS hospitals will begin shortly to validate the performance.

It relies entirely on people doing the right thing, if I understand it correctly. If SPADs themselves can't do this, it's going to be a tough ask to expect everyone else to do the same. For the record, I'd happily fire up Amazon Prime for a fortnight and carry on more or less as normal, with no walks or visits to the corner shop. However...

What's the response going to be to "I've had Covid-19 - am I at risk of spreading it, or can I catch it again?" Does anyone actually know?

EDIT - I should say that's "normal" for Covid, i.e. not leaving the house and eating many biscuits.

The criteria for getting a phone call from the contact tracing people is that you have been within 2 meters of someone with covid for more than 15 minutes or any time within one meter face to face. I can't see many situations where that would actually be triggered, given that we (and shops and workplaces) are still supposed to be socially distancing anyway.

Does "within 2 meters" include exactly 2 meters then?

See to me it makes sense.

I don't GET why we have to socially distance in supermarkets/shops in general because we are just passing by people, we are not stopping and having a 15 minute chat with someone over the pasta!

I think the Government have spent a lot of the goodwill it had with the Public so I can see a lot of people not bothering to download this app. Not because of privacy concerns but because they aren't listening anymore.

Interesting to see it broken into regions

Odd that the south west seems to be lagging in terms of going through a sort of 'peak'

We had a lot of people come to the South West for the beaches. Weston Super Mare hospital had to close to non covid patients again last week.
