Jon - I am rubbish at answering posts on Twitter, but I got texts yesterday from our dentist for dad and I to arrange regular checkup.

Anyone going to be applying for one of these bike vouchers today then?

I'll probably leave it. Looks like they will only be accepted in stores in exchange for a service or work undertaken in the shop. I was hoping they could be used online, then I would have used it towards some new wheels or a new saddle.

Here's an interesting question. How do we think the vaccine is going to be rolled out?

14a90CH.png

We are now at 5 in Phase 3

The two front runners are

Chinese company Sinovac is developing a vaccine based on inactivated Covid-19 particles. The vaccine has shown a promising safety profile in the early stages of testing and is now moving into Phase 3 trials in Brazil.

The University of Oxford vaccine is delivered via a chimpanzee virus, called the vaccine vector. The vector contains the genetic code of the protein spikes found on the coronavirus and triggers a strong immune response in the human body. The vaccine is in a combined phase 2/3 trial in the UK and has recently gone into phase 3 trials in South Africa and Brazil.

We also know that in a pandemic a vaccine doesn't need to be approved before it can be rolled out so what would be the quickest way to do this if we get one before the end of the year?

The USA has already announced they will just use the army for it and in the UK based on the fact they aren't going to want 60 million people all turning up at their doctors I can see them doing similar using the nightingale hospitals, existing coronavirus test drive-throughs etc.

I just can't see it being done through the usual NHS channels for a jab!

It will be interesting to see how long it will take to get the vaccine in this country as USA have already hinted they will be buying up all the stocks if it goes onto the open market and they definitely have the purchasing power to do so.

My understanding is that 30 million doses are being made by September so that if it works they can roll it out straight sways

I thought we already had an agreement for a lot of them. If it is the Oxford one that is suitable surely they could not just sell it to America.

There has just been a feature on HNK about an orchestra giving their first performance. They tested for any particles that may have come out of the blown instruments before hand and decided that if there were particles they were getting caught in the tubes and sticking to the walls rather than being expelled. Only thing I missed was whether or not there was an audience.

The lovely Declan Costello is doing lots of work regarding singing and Covid-19 as well. His findings are that apart from the odd plosive consonant, even 1 metre is pretty safe.

Let's look at what gets reported

Latest UK figures show 83 more Covid-19 related deaths
A further 83 people have died from Covid-19 associated deaths in the UK, according to government figures.
It takes the total deaths associated with the pandemic to 45,961.
There have been 763 more lab-confirmed cases across the UK, taking the total number of cases to 301,455.

And then the reality on a DAY to DAY basis (so how many actually die on the day instead of get processed)

So do we think it is a second wave coming across mainland Europe at the moment or is it just the result of better and more targeted testing?

There seems to be a few places that are having outbreaks in specific areas such as farms and factories rather than in the community. The thing I don't understand is the way Spain are presenting their figures, if they are including anti - body tests.

The prime minister has told opposition parties a further easing of restrictions due to come in tomorrow in England is being postponed, the BBC's Nick Eardley reports.

It had been expected that venues such as casinos and bowling alleys would reopen from tomorrow. Live indoor theatre and concerts were also due to resume with socially distanced audiences.

Details are expected in the prime minister’s press conference shortly.

Bowling Alleys!! They've thought twice they would open already!!

Does that mean they won't be able to allow the public in to Goodwood now on saturday?

I think holiday bookings are going to drop off again. Everywhere in Europe could be at risk of falling into the quarantine rules at very short notice.

Only 2 more months of furlough left.

Sigh

pushed back by 2 weeks by the looks of it

What's your plan for after furlough ends then? Are you going back to work?

Swindon has had a quite a few breakouts in the last weeks - 51 at an Iceland depot, and also breakouts at Royal Mail, Honda and the Fire station. I'm sure they must've impacted the South West numbers.
