Anyone worried? Concerned? Panicking? Bulk Buying?

Personally, I'm not as I still think the number of people who actually die from this thing outside of China is extremely low!

HOWEVER, I do think they are going to end up cancelling the Olympics, Euros etc

Also, this is having a HUGE knock-on effect on the financial markets. All my stocks have been heading south all week!

I dont think it is a concern as such now, but it will be the rest of the year, if you have holidays booked will they happen?

Same here with investments looks like the markets have taken a big hit

Yeah I mean I've off to USA later on this year but have already paid for flights etc so hopefully, they won't stop travelling over the Atlantic or anything.

I also sorted out my holiday insurance this week and I think the price for premiums on that are going to start heading north soon as well!

I'm not too worried that it is going to get out of hand, but it may mean they need to cancel some events to limit the spread.

Well, it seems to have caused rather a panic doesn't it. I do hope that it can be contained, but the way its looking, I am beginning to doubt that, to be honest.
I am worried about it, as both of my kids and myself are diabetic and one also has Cystic Fibrosis, so if she gets it, it could be a disaster, as her lung function is really poor anyway! It's scary stuff for us at the moment.
But, at the end of the day, life goes on, and we intend to go on as usual, just being a bit more careful of keeping away from sick people and washing hands whenever appropriate.

I was on holiday when there was the issue of bird flu. I could only get the news channel in English so watched that a lot. It was being reported as if it was the end of the world. I'm not saying there was nothing in it but it was exaggerated out of all proportions.

In my opinion, something of a storm in a teacup. I'm not concerned for this virus more than any other right now.
In terms of investing, I feel this is a great opportunity for making good gains in the medium term. The market is dropping based on sentiment and panic, while the actual companies are not performing really any better or worse. I feel once the hype dies down over corona, the market will recover quickly.

I freelance for a small business that could be seriously affected (global corporate events industry). This is one of the reasons I’m starting to increase my earnings through other methods. I’m concerned about the effect on small businesses and the effect on the economy in general.

I think it will affect matched betting with sporting events being cancelled etc, but maybe we will see more casino offers, who knows.

My husband is a courier and his customers all sign his scanner with their fingers. I’ve ordered some anti bacterial wipes for him to use but hand gel is sold out everywhere! Panic buying has started already here because one of the confirmed cases was in the next town to us. We are slowly adding a few extra packs of rice etc to our shopping but not panic buying.

I am not particularly worried and think that this panic will probably make things worse as panic often results in really stupid decisions being made. I wish the media had taken a less sensationalist approach and dealt with facts. Hand gels and wipes are only of value if they are over 60% alcohol preferably over 70%, otherwise they are only really anti-bacterial and this is a virus. I checked the bottle I have at home, it's 57%

Speaking as an 'early adopter' where Swine Flu was concerned (swabbed, quarantined at home and everything), this both seems familiar...and doesn't. Especially as I'd had worse and longer-lasting hangovers. There seems to be significantly more panic, both from the WHO and the national and international media. However, I *do* wonder if they're using a relatively mild virus with a low mortality rate as a practice run for something more serious in future. If so, very sensible indeed.

What IS a personal worry is if public gatherings are banned/suspended for some months. The hit to my income from cancelled concert and stage work will be significant. If it's worse still and London comes to a standstill with public transport halted (unlikely, I hope), my income will vanish completely. And then I'll need you lovely guys and your bright ideas more than ever.

Wow! This could REALLY effect the economy then! I know they always blame the lack of sales on the high street on bad weather etc but this could have an even bigger impact and actually be legit!

It could, potentially, be absolutely horrendous. My immediate goal for the next two months is to put together a month's living expenses, and clear the credit card so that's another month and a half of general bills if absolutely necessary (and I hope not). This is only possible if all March's gigs go ahead and all my students turn up, however.

Yes. Not so much from the virus itself but the reaction to it and the precautions that might be taken.

I'm really not sure. I've not been that worried, but then I wonder whether I'm being naive?

On a very selfish level we are due to have our first proper family holiday in 6 years this summer so if that is cancelled I'll be pretty peed off.

From a business point of view it's quite worrying as lots of businesses get their parts from China and that seems to be causing problems. There also seem to be predictions that schools could be closed for upto 2months, though not sure where that has come from.

Who knows?!

That’s what happens when your working with chemicals and you forget to do all your usual checks. (Hazmat suit, sterile environment.) what i wanna know is, what were they trying to create? Aren’t bioweapons banned in china? Or were they experimenting with trying to use this as a vaccine for something else? (Like small pox and mad cow disease)

After the schools being off for 7 and a half weeks last summer I can categorically say that 2 months off school would drive me to despair!! So much scaremongering going on.
