Early indications appear to show that the coronavirus epidemic in the UK appears to be starting to slow down, a scientist who has been advising the government on the outbreak has said.

Professor Neil Ferguson, of Imperial College London, said the slowing of the spread of coronavirus was the result of the social distancing measures brought in by the government.

He told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme:

He said the government is ‘within days’ of having an antibody test available which is a finger prick test.

I honestly think, warmer weather and 12 weeks of lockdown (though not all 12 being as locked down as we are now) and we'll be over this

Someone on TV made the comment about the schools opening again in June. What unearth would be the point to that? Just leave that now until September.

It's the businesses / cafes / pubs that need to come back.

I honestly think the UK (and every country) knows that they need to have a summer as tourism brings millions to each country and they don't want this virus impacting that or else the government will have even less money to give out. We can't have a country with no hotels / resorts / airlines etc.

The Self Employed / 80% PAYE thing has a date of June
A mortgage breaks for 3 months until June

Everything seems to be about providing help / support UNTIL then

The number of people who have died in England after contracting coronavirus is now 1,284, a rise of 159, NHS England said.

The patients were aged between 32 and 98 years old and all but four, aged between 56 and 87 years old, had underlying health conditions.

Well they are 22 and don’t live at home so ya know.. not so much home schooling
you have 22 year old children? I didn't think you were old enough.

I have kids and I am ok if they chose to keep them closed until September just to be on the safe side.

If the COVID19 doesn't slow down, we could be looking at another further 3 months of this chaos. At this rate there is nothing to suggest that the coronavirus is going to slow down in the UK. Either way it is going to take a fair while for this country to get back off it's ankles and prosper again, at the moment the future is looking very bleak.

We HAVE to see an improvement

people just aren’t doing what they were doing before so the virus will have nowhere to go and die off without being passed On

Be interesting to keep an eye on Sweden. They haven't done any lockdown yet, kids still at school, shops and pubs still open.

Let's hope they can ramp up the testing and we can slow this piece of shit disease down - we can't let it beat us!

Total US deaths reach 3,393, exceeding China's reported 3,305 deaths

The US now has the third highest number of coronavirus-related deaths, behind Italy and Spain.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo said the peak of the coronavirus crisis in the US will likely be in 14 to 30 days, "depending on who you believe".

Health officials urged Americans to follow stay-at-home orders and other measures to contain the spread of the virus.

Globally, there are now over 800,000 cases of the highly contagious respiratory infection and around 39,000 deaths.
Italy has 11,591 reported deaths followed by Spain at 8,189.

All we can do is stay home and hope/pray that things get better and they find a vaccine soon. I am trying to live life normally as much as possible. If the weather improves and we are still stuck indoors I will buy summer clothes but online, every little helps I guess.

I think the US has a disadvantage as they don't have a universal health care system, I think something like 10% of their population do not have health insurance at all. A lot of their population are used to not accessing health care even when they need it.

Awful number of UK deaths today (or in the last 24 hrs as I think it's covered) - Seems like we are still yet to hit the peak of the curve

Well a big wow here this morning. A big box of food appeared on our doorstep with a note inside telling us that is the first government food drop, because daughter is on the most vulnerable list. Apparently it is going to be a weekly thing. It certainly takes the pressure off if we can't get an online shopping slot! Beans, soup, tinned veg, fresh fruit and veg, bread, LOO ROLL, PASTA, tinned meat, long life milk, shower gel, biscuits!
