In other news, In South Africa they have banned selling cigarettes and alcohol as part of their lockdown. Just watched a news report of them pouring thousands of litres of beer down the drain. Crazy; not to mention stupid to kill off another part of the economy that might actually have survived if left alone.

great to see all the cafes and bars opening in mainland Europe - Amazing how far the likes of Spain and Italy have come from how it was in March!

NHS England announces 122 new deaths in hospitals of people testing positive

NHS England has announced 122 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 24,739.

Of the 122 new deaths announced today:

– 27 occurred on Sunday
– 59 occurred on Saturday
– 29 occurred on Friday
– six occurred on Thursday, and
– one occurred on Wednesday

NHS England said the Covid patient notification system did not operate for a period of time on May 16 and this may have had an impact on the number of deaths reported today, which is lower than would be expected.

Care home deaths dropping again it seems.

Also looks like we might have an extra bank holiday in October to make up for the last revenue from the 2 in may

Has there really not been a second spike anywhere from counties that have reopened?

The virus never really got going in those countries as far as I'm aware (Austria had at most 30 deaths per day at it's peak), and they had a strict lockdown fairly early, so they're fairly poor models for whether a second peak will occur. Denmark is doing track and trace and the other two countries are probably doing the same in one form or another since their cases are so low now. If they kept up social distancing and tracing, hopefully they'll see no cases soon.

I found an article on the university of Cambridge website suggesting we have a different cluster of strains of coronovirus compared to most of Asia. It could explain the differences in death rates and places like Hong Kong with only 4 deaths in total. There could also have been a version circulating in September to December which was not very deadly, but it's hard to tell since it's mutating very quickly.

The decision to make Cambridge university online only in 2020-2021 seems VERY short-sighted!

Looks like Greece is opening up for Tourists on 1st July! Jet2 are gonna make a bomb!

Agree about Cambridge. Way to early to make a call like that for the whole of next year.

So if I go for a week's holiday in Greece in July, does that mean I have to do 14 days quarentine when I get back to the UK?

My understanding is that if you are going to countries that have got this under control you won't have to.

So Greece you would be fine

Brazil or Russia, not so much (AT THE MOMENT)

I would hope Cambridge is just being prepared. If it got to September and there is another peak and they were not able to function they would be criticised.

We’re booked to go to France to a mobile home park on 6th July. Balance is due in 3 days. Will pay it but feels so strange paying for something that may not happen/unsure if it wise to still go. My husband hasn’t worked in about 8 weeks so can’t really be taking any more time out. But will Nicola sturgeon ever let us go back to work?
