1805 new cases today, that number seems to be dropping a lot and we are about 200 deaths down on the same day last week

The majority of the people Ive seen on the buses are elderly and no one wears a face mask. They are the ones travelling from a small village to town to do some shopping. I can understand they won't let them let on.

Im just annoyed with it all today - I got a letter today to say I may be out of a job as she cant afford to keep staff on (Im furloughed but the government doesn't pay all the staffs furloughed money she's expected to top it up to the 80 per cent).

I can't drive so I feel like I'm stuck in one area.
Am so sorry to hear this. Do you know when they are going to let you know if you have a job or not?

Daughter has has a letter today to say that 38 out of 59 jobs will be going at her work. She's on maternity leave at the moment, due to go back in October, so she's understandably worried.

I'm so glad that I bought some washable cotton masks last month. Now people will be wearing them on public transport, they'll be hard to buy! I think its a good idea. Public transport is a germ factory, even without a pandemic.

The waiting game is not nice. I just got the letter today with no idea of when she will let us know. I only work part time, and only just started working there last October so I don't have much hope to be kept on.

No, it isn't nice having to wait at all. That's my husband and daughter both waiting to see if they are going to lose their jobs now. :(

I am sorry to hear this too and hope it works out.

Sorry to hear about the risk of lost jobs.

I just looked at the figures for Germany and while still lower than us they seem to be going up again. 205 a few days ago and over 400 today.

I think most old people own quite a collection of scarves. It only says a face covering it does not specify what. We gave up our car before all this started as it needed some work and we did not think it was worth replacing. We rely on public transport and I have not been further than I can walk since March. None of my children have secure jobs. It is a worrying time for everyone.

I went for a drive to Saltburn today to watch the sea while drinking a coffee. Despite the weather it was busy with people queuing for fish and chips and ice creams, and people walking or cycling on the pier. Social distancing was totally absent, and that applied to people of all ages. It's like the last 10 weeks never happened! I despair, I really do. Then there are huge queues for a poxy McDonald's or to visit Ikea! I didn't get out of my car, as it horrified me. Boris and co seem to think the majority are listening, but they are not.

Well, I've had an interesting morning.

Yesterday afternoon I started having a huge headache + aching all over + the poops! + chills - This morning it's continued so I've gone on the NHS website and ordered a home test

Probably isn't coronavirus but when ONE disease is plastered all over the news for months at a time you don't know what to think!

I hope you feel better soon. If you have not got a cough it is quite likely to be something else. Take care any way and keep us posted.

The R value in the UK has risen to between 0.7 and 1, according to the government’s latest official estimates with some regions now at risk of seeing a rise in the number of infections.

The latest data suggests that the north-west of England is an area for concern and that some local authorities may have R-values – the rate of transmission – above 1, at which point the epidemic will begin to grow in these communities.

The Government’s chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance told a virtual briefing with journalists on Friday the R-number - the average number of people that will contract coronavirus from an infected person - for England was between 0.7 and 1, while it remained between 0.7 and 0.9 for the UK as a whole.

He said the prevalence of Covid-19 was on a “downward trajectory” in the UK, adding:

The prevalence of coronavirus, according to the ONS, is at 0.1%, with 53,000 people with Covid-19 in the past two weeks.

He said the incidence rate was at 0.7% per week, which meant there were “roughly” 39,000 new coronavirus cases each week.

Sir Patrick said:

The latest R-value calculation is between 0.7 and 0.9 for the UK as a whole, it may be a little bit higher in England it may be between 0.7 and 1, and there is a bit of regional variation.

Based on the behaviour I have seen in the past couple of days I can't see the R value staying below 1 much longer, particularly when more shops open on 15th.

It's about infection control from now on though, isn't it? Germany bumped upwards like this, then sank back under 1 within a week or so. Don't have quite the same confidence in the UK, however. Zero social distancing in the Poundshop this morning, although every single customer - and the staff - was wearing a mask, so that probably doesn't matter that much.

Ah, that's a pain! How are you feeling now?
Well i’ve stopped the endless pooping but I would guess that’s connected with the fact I can barely eat food without feeling sick

I still have the sweats at night and my temperature goes from 35-38.7 at the drop of a hat throughout the day. Everything is knackering, am incredibly lethargic. When I had a shower this morning it felt like I had ran a marathon!

in regards to the test if you ever have to do it it’s not that bad. It took me about 4 attempts to do the swab in the back of the mouth without gaging but the nose one I did in one go as you just go up an inch until you hit resistance / your brain so it’s very easy
