But figures I saw the other day shared by a minister showed 30% were from hospitality. I guess statistics are being manipulated to suit.

I think Leeds may end up under tier 3 which would be a tad unfair as it again is being driven by the student population

If they are going to ring-fence students then they should offer them the option of going home and finishing the semester online. Universities are not coping with this mass isolation of their students as they are not set up for this!

Tier 3 looks harsh based on what they are shutting in Liverpool

I'm getting sick of this now. A Sage "expert" on BBC1 has just said "the science is clear most of the outbreaks are happening in and between households and after that it is retail and hospitality sector" What science? Show me the data and how it was collected.

I haven't seen a single piece of evidence that says its spreading most in those places. Its seems to me its Universities, hospitals and care homes.

Then he waffled on about gyms and basically said there is no evidence gyms are a direct cause - but I bet they end up closing those too in tier 3.

I'd still like some concrete proof that masks are as much use as they say they are as well. The best I could find is this https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS2213-2600(20)30352-0/fulltext

The longer this goes on the more I am starting to go along with the conspiracy theorists.

So it's just a coincidence that numbers started going up just when the kids went back to school/college/uni then according to the science? But blame everything but that, cos they need an education! I honestly think that places of education should have stayed shut until the end of the year. There's none so blind as them that can't see, as my Mum says.

is the science for masks not just that if you cough / breath heavily with one germs spread further than without one?

Seems the BBC agree with you

The problem with introducing the sort of restrictions that are being suggested to control the spread of the virus is that no-one is really sure whether they will really work.

Firstly, while the government’s advisers can track patterns in where infected individuals have been prior to being diagnosed, they cannot prove that they were actually infected in those places.

Secondly, there will be unintended consequences.

Close pubs and you may make the situation worse by driving people to mix more in private homes which are less "Covid-secure”.

It is point that has been made in recent days by Manchester City Council leader Sir Richard Leese as well as others, as ministers weigh up their options.

Then there is the economic, social and emotional toll of closing down parts of a community.

These are decisions that will divide opinion and, what is more, it will be nigh on impossible to judge exactly what impact they will have had on the virus.

The real problem is that we are no longer 'united' in fighting this anymore, up until the Cummings fiasco most of the country was on board and it was also easier to accept and understand the 'rules' on total lockdown.

Now, nobody trusts a word that the Government or anyone else says and people have mainly made their own minds up and gone their own way. And this North/South divide is only going to get bigger unfortunately as the Government seem to be 'NIMBY' now.

I think it is now CoVidConfused.com©

Agree. Choosing to support Cummings and their defence of him in the days that followed made a mockery of all the restrictions and pretty much ended the 'we're all in it together' feeling. I don't know what is going to happen now. I have generally followed the rules but I also totally understand why others don't but of course, unless we are united then none of this is going to work.

So a national chemist have cancelled my flu jab today

Dear Jonathan,

We're writing to advise you that, unfortunately, we have had to cancel your flu appointment.

We are very sorry about this, but we do not have enough stock of the vaccine to meet the massive increase in demand that we have seen this year. Although we anticipated that demand for flu vaccines would be high in light of COVID-19, we have not been able to secure as much stock as we had expected.

We are continuing to work with the NHS, Public Health England and the manufacturers to resolve this issue and hope to have more of the vaccine later in the flu season. Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee that supply, and so cannot offer you an alternative appointment at this time.

So to resolve this I just drove round to Asda where you can get a flu jab without booking for £8!

should have just done that in the first place!

With these new restrictions I am in the tier 2 bracket. But are we still allowed support bubbles? On the gov site it states that I can set up a support bubble with my household (of 4) with a single adult household. That covers me doing necessary shopping and general checks on two family members who live on their own but can't manage on their own

I know you are still allowed to have child care support bubbles in place -so I presume yes you are allowed to set up some support bubbles.
