Can't help but feel they are going to end up closing all the schools due to national pressure

It should have been closed and the announcement should have been made over the Christmas holidays, it's not safe for schools to stay open.

Think its a case of priorities. The government is prioritising education over business, hospitality, retail etc. - that's understandable.

But the vaccine rollout doesn't match this - if this is the case teachers and education workers all need to be vaccinated before they reopen.

Yes, I don't understand why teachers are not a priority on the vaccine front. It makes no sense. The last term despite schools opening, lots were not able to teach properly due to staff/students in and out of isolation.

Yes, I really don't understand why educators aren't on the priority list, particularly primary and secondary educators. This would have a positive knock-on effect not just for a more settled life for children, but on infection rates and the wider economy.

thing is, with so much of the country in Tier 4 - what's the difference between that and a national lockdown beyond schools / gyms / universities closing?

If its 8pm its likely to be a big one. Another full national lockdown looming,

I really want to see today's figures, (the ones we get tomorrow reflecting what happened today) these will be the first proper figures not messed up by bank holidays and the Christmas break and should start to reflect any increase due to Christmas mixing. I am NOT expecting a huge rise, maybe a small one followed by a plateau as the rates in London subside but the north and midlands increase, with that followed by a gradual drop nationally. I dont see this situation warrants going full bananas into another lock down. The govt are quick enough to get the army logistics people to help with supplying tests and vaccines, so what about the RAMC, can they be deployed to help the NHS?

Schools need to stay open, or we are going too end up with a generation of Ralph Wiggums. Does anyone have any evidence that children are spreading the virus in school and then taking it home and infecting their parents?

Because there are no plans to vaccinate children. So are we saying schools are unsafe and need to be closed until all the vulnerable people are vaccinated? in which case, you're looking at Easter until they reopen. Which would be donkey bollocks of the highest order.

Rumours are 2 weeks (ish) of lockdowns to try and smash through vaccinations and then hopefully things should start to improve. Normally I take no notice of rumours on news sites etc, but this government leaks like a sieve..

There have been a further 58,784 coronavirus cases confirmed across the UK, the government says.

There have also been a further 407 deaths within 28 days of a positive test, taking the total by that measure to 75,431.

Why does Boris even do press conferences. They just leak everything beforehand anyway.

People volunteering to give vaccinations have been made to do the full NHS mandatory training including modules such as conflict resolution, racism awareness and lifting and handling. In my day you just stuck a needle into an orange a few times. My husband is 80 and has not been invited for his jab yet so I think it will be quite a while before vacinations make much difference.
They seem to be very gung ho about mixing and matching vaccines and delaying the second dose. You wonder what the point of the clinical trials was.
