Question is

do case numbers matter so much if hospitalisation / deaths are avoided because of the vaccine
Its always been about hospitalisations and preventing the NHS being overwhelmed so I guess the answer would be no?

People aged 40-49 next in line for Covid-19 vaccine

People aged 40-49 will be prioritised next for a Covid-19 vaccine, Professor Wei Shen Lim from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has announced.
In phase two of the UK's vaccine rollout, it says priority will be given by age in the following order:
- All those aged 40-49- All those aged 30-39- All those aged 18-29

As a 39 year old I am THIS CLOSE to getting the jab lol
Well I have not had mine yet and I have just turned 60 I guess it will be soon

That headline is just about the decision to vaccinate people under 50 by age instead of occupation. Those under 50 are nowhere near getting vaccinated as much as I would like them to be. I’m 58 and there are between 8m and 12m people in front of me.

Matt said today that the vaccine numbers in March are going to be HUGE so it might speed up quite a bit!

An additional 469,003 vaccinations (1st and 2nd doses combined) have been reported over the past 24 hours in England.

An overall total of 17,254,844 in England.

at the current rate i would think every adult will have been offered the vaccine by the end of May, not july!

Don't forget a lot of the early vaccinated people are going to need their 2nd jab as well in that time so it will slow down the amount available for 1st jabs.

Don't the existing vaccines already work with the Brazil variants? I don't get what the real issue is!?!?

I think the issue is we just don't know yet - for all we know, the Brazil variant not only spreads faster, but has a higher mortality rate and more of a risk of long-Covid.

I think they're just being cautious. That's what I took from the news this morning, anyway.

Seems Italy are doing something interesting with their vaccines

People in Italy who have already had Covid-19 will receive just one vaccine dose instead of the usual two, the Italian health ministry has announced.

The new policy applies to people who were infected with coronavirus between three and six months prior to a jab.

"A single dose of vaccine may be considered for individuals with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection, symptomatic or asymptomatic", the ministry said.

Around 4.7 million doses have been administered in Italy so far. And 1.5 million in the country of 60 million people have received two doses.

France and Spain introduced the same approach in the past month.

The medical thinking behind the policy is that people with a past infection have some immunity left over from the infection. The single vaccine dose would then act as a booster of that immunity.

I think it makes sense. My daughter who had already had corona virus before her jab said the reaction to the jab felt like a very mild form of the disease. I can see them giving the over eighties a second jab but not anyone else for a while. My husband has an appointment for a second jab but I don't .

I know we are having a 'lumpy' week when it comes to vaccine amounts at the moment but it's interesting to see how much the AZ amounts are ramping up

Him indoors is in the same boat! Nothing nearer than 40 miles away. Really annoying, as there is a big vaccination centre less than a mile away.

Tried to book ours yesterday. Nearest available hub 30 miles away. A bit annoyed, but accepted appointment for 18th March, but every time I clicked “accept” it said the date and time that was offered 10 seconds ago had gone! Did that about 5 times, and then that hub disappeared and the nearest choice was 46 miles away. Gave up and booked one over the phone, but again 46 miles away was closest appointment and now booked for 26th March! Imagine my surprise when a friend tried today and got offered a jab tomorrow. Most of my older friends have had their jabs about 3 miles away at a pharmacy. Think I will phone tomorrow and see if we can get it earlier there.

If you're having your jab, I would plan a few days of not doing much afterwards. I had mine last week on Saturday and by Sunday I felt terrible.. This lasted til Tuesday and still not back to normal. By contrast my friends mum who is 85 with several health conditions had hers and had no side effects at all

I think it depends which one you have. My parents both had Pzier with no side effects, i had the Astra Zeneca and was floored for a couple of days.
