I just don't know what to think. I don't dare hope. I've got a REALLY big gig on Bank Holiday Monday, which will involve (I hope) about 100 amateur singers in the chorus. But the DCMS don't seem to think choirs exist.

As long as the rate of rise keeps slowing. Keep those jabs coming!

this thing is hitting a wall

I wonder if they will end up moving to stage 4 in 2 weeks instead of 4

Hard to tell, isn't it? Had a phone appointment with my GP this morning - he reckons that in some areas with an older demographic, it's just running out of people to infect.

Again, keep those jabs coming!

Case rates continuing to rise among all age groups - PHE

Covid-19 case rates in all regions of England are continuing to increase, according to the latest weekly surveillance report from Public Health England.

North-west England has the highest rate, with 196.9 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to June 13, up week-on-week from 152.0.

This is the highest rate for the region since the week ending February 7.

North-east England has the second-highest rate: 92.6, up from 42.6.

Eastern England has the lowest rate: 37.0, up from 28.6.

Case rates are continuing to rise among all age groups, PHE said.

The highest rate is among 20 to 29-year-olds, with 195.9 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to June 13, up week-on-week from 123.6
.
This is also the age group to see the biggest week-on-week increase.

The second highest rate is among 10 to 19-year-olds, up from 100.3 to 143.3.

For people aged 60 and over, the rate is 14.3, up slightly from 10.6.

Nearly 16,000 'reinfections' of Covid-19 reported in England

Some 15,893 possible reinfections of Covid-19 have been identified in England, according to figures published for the first time.

Reinfections are defined as people who have tested positive for a second time at least 90 days after first testing positive for the virus.

Of the 15,893 possible reinfections up to May 30, 53 have so far been confirmed by identifying genetically distinct specimens from each episode of illness, Public Health England said.

The figures are part of ongoing analysis into reinfection levels, which is currently affected by the limited availability of data for identifying the genomic sequence of the virus, particularly in the early months of the pandemic.

Maybe we have to accept this happens sometimes the same way people get flu each year

I know of at least two under 20s who have it for the second time right now - one is a student of mine (13) who has unfortunately spent the year in and out of hospital with complications from Long Covid.

And there are currently no plans to vaccinate kids...yeesh.

I really need to think they need to put some money into researching ways to help/cure long covid now.

PHE publishes latest Delta variant figures as more than 33,000 new cases recorded in a week

A total of 75,953 confirmed and probable cases of the Covid-19 Delta variant have now been identified in the UK, Public Health England said – up by 33,630, or 79 per cent, on the previous week.

Of the 75,953, 70,856 have been in England, 4,659 in Scotland, 254 in Northern Ireland and 184 in Wales.

The most recent data shows 99 per cent of confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus across the country are the Delta variant.

A total of 806 people in England have been admitted to hospital with the Delta variant of Covid-19 as of June 14, a rise of 423 on the previous week, the new figures show.

Of the 806, 527 (65 per cent) were unvaccinated, 135 (17 per cent) were more than 21 days after their first dose of vaccine, and 84 (10 per cent) were more than 14 days after their second dose.

As of June 14, there have been 73 deaths in England of people who were confirmed as having the Delta variant and who died within 28 days of a positive test.

Of this number, 34 (47 per cent) were unvaccinated, 10 (14 per cent) were more than 21 days after their first dose of vaccine and 26 (36 per cent) were more than 14 days after their second dose.

So more vaccinated people died than unvaccinated then?

The majority of people that have been vaccinated are older or sicker to start with, so are more at risk of getting seriously ill or dying, even if vaccinated, as vaccines are not 100% effective at preventing disease. The vast majority of unvaccinated people are young and healthy, so are far less likely to end up dying. The number of deaths doesn't mean a lot if you don't have the ages and/or underlying causes of the dead. It could be hundreds of thousands of youngsters getting sick and only 34 dying and only a few older, sicker people who have been vaccinated that died.
