I hope so. Here its rife in schools. It was worked out at over 4,000 per 100,000 in school age kids! Our numbers jumped from 280 to 1089 per 100,00 in less than a week. We're in the south west, so I guess the jump was partly caused by the lab failure. I know quite a few people locally had a positive lateral flow, followed by a negative PCR, so went about their lives normally, thinking they must just have a cold.

why do we think the numbers are dropping again?

is it running out of school kids to run through?

I'm sure Sage said months and months ago when we were opening up again that we have to get used to lots of mini waves and at the moment this is looking like another one!

Before this wave, it was thought that half of school age kids have already had Covid, so I would guess that must be knocking 75% or more now. Here, they were saying around 1 in 10 kids are currently infected, which is a big number. In a few weeks, surely they would pretty much all of either had it or been jabbed, so theoretically it should drop back fairly quickly (fingers crossed)

Ah I see wales didn’t report figures today so it is a bit of an artificial low today

The Tuesday catch up figures + todays wales one could be quite a jump!

I think it's a combination of a) natural infection in kids, b) jabs for 16+ (and in some areas, significant inroads in jabs for 12+), and c) boosters in the 80+, carers, and CEV.

Whatever it is, I'm looking forward to more and more of my job coming back. I'm aware I'm taking a chance every time I teach face to face, but I have REALLY missed it.

We've turned into hermits again. Daughter has C.F. with a lung function of just 30% on a good day. I daren't go out and risk bringing it back to her, even though we're both double jabbed. Once the numbers here drop, I'll be a bit more relaxed. Hopefully we'll get our boosters soon, as we're both over 6 months now.

When it comes down to it, we still just don't understand this virus. It's new - somewhere between two and two and a half years old (depending on which laboratory is testing out 'early' cases), it's still mutating rapidly (older viruses settle down, apparently), and we still only have good - not perfect - preventatives and treatments.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if it ceased to exist in a few years (not that it will). Or if it caused the zombie apocalypse (not that it will...I hope).

ZOE has been tracking downwards for the last few days getting bigger in the jumps

This new pill sounds promising as well!

Does anyone think we will end up in a lockdown over winter? I just can't see it happening at the moment, especially with how boosters are going now

Don't rule out a winter lockdown, things could change within days - let's hope it doesn't come to that point.

There have been a 35,045 new Covid-19 cases reported in the UK.

A further 62 people have also died after getting the virus.

Ooh and a 3pm one later

ZOE is still continuing to trend downwards but I can’t work out if that is behind or ahead of us now!

Zoe says there are 7533 active cases in my area over the last week, Government says 928. That's a very big difference. I'm confused, which isn't hard!
