So...where are the rest of you 572 members?

Evening all,

I'm taking a quick break from work to browse TMS, and it occurred to me that it seems to be very quiet in the evenings on here. So that got me thinking; maybe there just aren't many members? But then I looked...

There are 572 members signed up to TMS, but I reckon I've seen about 30 people post over the two ish months I've been here. Now that strikes me as a little odd. There are obviously avenues and opportunities to explore, but a HUGE chunk of the members aren't interacting. Is this due to a lack of confidence do you think, or are people happy the take information from others without any interest in giving something back?

The thing that appeals to me most about TMS is that the active users all contribute to help each other, and I think that's the best way to keep these opportunities available for us all to see and benefit from. So I guess my question is where are the other members and why aren't they contributing? It's all well and good taking the information and using it, but if we all stopped commenting you wouldn't find it in the first place. I reckon you should all join in a bit more - it's all good fun! And let's not forget that interacting with others on here could lead to an association that benefits you financially when something arises that you wouldn't be considered for if you hadn't made yourself known...

A site such as this this is very high on opportunities and information will always attract more people that want information than want to share it or participate in other areas of the site (off topic for instance!)

Is a double edged sword though as without people chatting and sharing the site become completly one way and less opportunities get shared

Sometimes you have a quiet week where not much goes on in the world of earning online but you can still post and interact in the other areas of the site, that's why they are there, otherwise I might as well just make the money shed a blog where people are unable to share information

It's a tricky balance to get right but whichever way you slice it a concept such as this requires member interaction of both taking content and contributing to it in some form

To be honest I find this forum quite active for only 572 members, some you wouldn't believe how quiet they are despite having thousands.

This is a very active forum. There are always new unread posts to read.
Not every member is going to be active as the same with any other sort of site not just Forums. Inactivity will happen because other things come up or people are jumping from one site to the next to find the next best thing.
Some people pick things out and then they don't bother anymore.
However the only real way to make money online is to be active on a Forum like this and keep checking back you never know what may be posted next and if everyone shares the genuine opportunities that pay that helps others and I have certainly come across lots of things which I wouldn't have found on my own.
I have picked up so much info from here which I wouldn't have gained anywhere else and that has benefited me so it has been time well spent checking things out.

I'd agree that it's very active, but I'd argue that it's active due to a fairly small number of people. I rarely see someone post that I've not seen before for example.

Every community has its hub.

It doesn't matter what it is, a blog, a forum, a facebook page, whatever.

The 'Hub' keep things ticking over by contributing to the site with content. Some people may call it a 'clique' on a site but it's not.

I know from stats that MANY members login each day and don't post, they get what info they need and they get out

That's fine with me, If I make a post about an opportunity that involves posting on a thread and saying ' I want to do this' AKA Appen work then everyone comes to join in.

I don't know what more I can do to get people to post. I have financial incentives for people to both sign up referrals and get their post count up. Those incentives come out of my pocket. We have off topic areas and money saving areas.

The major difference between this site and the green site Boost Income now is that that sub forum is a total swagbucks esq code forum now. You don't see hardly any of the opportunities that get listed here mentioned over there. Yet people still flock there to post, why? Because it's a known brand / website and I am working on promoting this brand everyday behind the scenes but it takes quite a bit of time.

Constantly introducing The Money Shed to new communities is very hard work to put it lightly.

the green site is boring. There is no real opportunities on there' the same threads are just posted on over and over again. When I go on, I like to look at the Old-Style Moneysaving boards, and read tips. The Up Your Income board is cluttered with daft codes.

I've never been interested in the Boost Your Income bit there.

I used to like the Grabbit, but prefer HUKD now. And I used to do a bit of comping. It is good for that. Or at least it was.

I suppose just time will cause more people to join the 'hub' here. It's not doing too badly tho :)

It's certainly not doing badly at all. :)

There is a strong core community here that works wonders to provide each other with opportunities.

It would be great to get a few of the non-posters to join in a bit. I honestly believe they'll find more opportunities if they do.

Contacts are are definitely key. If I have found an opportunity and have a few invites or whatever, you can guarantee I'm going to give them away to the people who post on here, or that I'm now in contact with on Skype. I probably wouldn't help out someone who didn't post but just PM'd me when I have something they want.

I was thinking about this at work last night.

Would it help for some thread that was worded something like.
Money Shed has helped me earn....
I know that sounds cheesy, but the "I have failed thread" was really useful to me when I was feeling down as it felt everyone had cracked it but me. I know I sound a bit of hippy but hands up I am hippy.
I am inclined to agree with Pheebs point about people only wanting opportunities and not contributing any back. But then if the website was closed and clicky it would be hard to encourage new comers.

My bank account is £136 better off as a result of this site (with another £85 due), these are opportunities that I found only on this site, and I do prowl the the green site forum. My family and I have benefited from mystery shop freebies (approx. value £210) that I discovered via this site. The encouragement from others has been so incredibly valuable and it is a shame I can't put a pound sign on it.

And yes I do share leads back.

I don't post very often but this site has really helped me. I don't make mega money online but every bit is helpful and it is nice to know that there are other people in the same position as me (not rolling in money ;D).

I've been away for a few months as work and homelife went mad, so although I've still been doing some of my 'moneyshed' activities most have been put on the backburner. But now I'm back and the website is all glam looking :) Great Job!
I guess it depends why members need the forum, maybe a lot of members came on, took what they needed and haven't needed to come back as their money plug has been filled. Anyway, its nice to be back, probably the friendliest and most helpful forum I've ever been involved with.

I'm one of the guilty ones... sorry :-[ I signed up because I feel like a career change is needed and doing some freelance work from home seems to be the best option to fit around my other commitments, but at the moment it's all a bit overwhelming so I'm just dipping in from time to time and bookmarking some interesting links to look at later. I suspect I'll be back with dozens of questions at some point though! I'm very glad that this site exists :)
