So while things are quiet on the MB/Appen/etc front, and I'm waiting on a few things before I can progress with my new business, I was thinking of setting up a blog!

I know it takes time to make money from a blog, and it's not a quick money maker, but just wondered realistically how long it would take to bring in money?

I'd also be interested in knowing what others in a similar position are making so I can understand the earning potential!

Thanks :)

It depends what you want.

The earning potential of a blog is unlimited. Like really unlimited.

The reality is that earning a 'full' salary from a blog takes a lot of hard work.

One thing I will say is that from @Jon 's Money Making Toolkit, it is clear that blogging isn't one of them. Its not because it can't grant you an income, its more that you can't see the results from it quickly.

:)

Thanks,

The Reverend

As the Rev says the earning potential is limitless and blogger how allowed me to quit my job and do to full time so the money is there!
Remember though that blogging is around 30% writing content, 70% promoting !!

Thanks! Assume it's going take a good six months or so at least to bring in an income..? It wouldn't be a priority at the moment as I'd need to prioritise the guaranteed income stuff - although that is subject to change if I think the potential is there!

Jon does this forum bring more revenue than the blog?

Cheers for answer.
That's surprised me but gives me a bit more confidence for when I start my blog.
The forum just acts as a community point. The blog is where companies want their content to be generally. Both sites offer the same Domain Authority so they sort of each compliment each other.

No, not at all! Matched betting and UTest have been keeping me busy so haven't had a chance to look into it any more.....

Hi all - I'm back onto this now!!

Just wondered what people's opinions are on what site is best to use for domain name and building website?

For my own business (which the launch of is on hold now!) I've used 123-reg and I'm having the website built for me using wordpress and the logo has been professionally designed.

I'd be doing the blog myself though so what's the best combo? Also, any recommendations for sites that do decent free logos?

You could just use canva for all your logo / designs which is free to use

what do you mean by “having the website build for you in WordPress?” - WP is typically just a one click install that takes a few seconds and then it’s just a case of choosing a theme :)

Ah yes what an idiot, totally forgot about canva! I haven't used it yet, I'll have a look at it for the logo but can it be used for website design as well? This is completely new to me so need to work out a simple step by step process for it all...!

Yeah sorry I just mean I've got someone sorting that out for me, not building as such!

Ah all good then

So are you just looking for somewhere to buy a domain and hosting from now then that ISN'T 123-reg?

Happy to use 123-reg - just wondered if it's still the best option (or if it even matters!)

I think it's about speed really and room to scale.

The only difference between all the hosting companies IMO these days is speed and overloading of cloud servers - the price is much of a muchness

If your hosting company put you on a shared hosting platform that is more full to the rafters with sites than it should be to run well you will find your site runs slower than elsewhere or it has moments where it completely grinds to a hault if another site on that server is bringing in decent traffic and pulling resources away from other sites
