Hoping for a bit of advice, here goes. I bought my Son a table tennis table for Christmas (from Amazon, got the money from the JobSpotter app). I was incredibly stupid and didn't measure it so it is too big for our house. The company refuse to collect it (I cannot move it myself), it cost more than the table tennis itself to courier it to be returned and most places wont collect it anyway cause the dimensions are too big. Nightmare, I have got it listed on Facebook, Spock and Ebay with no joy yet (has only been a day, have already reduced the price on Ebay). I am even thinking about giving it to a charity shop to sell if they are able to collect it. Can just about get the money together to get alternative Christmas presents for my Son. Does anyone have any other ideas. Know I am clutching at straws, even considering leaving it outside (if I could move it, its still in its packaging) in the hope that someone might just take it, but it isnt easy to take. Thinking of phoning local youth clubs etc. Any ideas welcome

Do you guys have a car or know anyone with a small van at all?

You could then take it to the dump if you just want to get rid of it

Too big for the car. Going to give it a few more days then see if I can donate it somewhere. Gutting cause I worked so hard to save up all the money for it.

Oh no. Try not to give up just yet. Let the listing run on eBay. Could you put cards in local shop windows/on village noticeboard etc. There may just be someone looking to buy one who has the room. If you advertise it locally as buyer collects it could go quicker. Have you got a local FB selling page? I think offering locally will make it easier to get rid of it. The buyer may know someone with an estate car/van. Or a couple of burly men might be able to carry it away?

Have already put it on my local facebook selling page, but may try some others. May also try the cards in local shop windows idea or a card in Morrisons. Cannot believe I have been so stupid, o well

Have you tried:

Preloved
Gumtree
Local table tennis clubs/organisations - local youth clubs etc.
My local Council will take away unwanted items for a fee (used to be about £15 I think), you could try asking yours
Ask the Council and Charity Organisations if they know of any place that would be interested
Ask your local schools - post on Mumsnet etc
Any local charities, childrens homes, sport centres
Put a 'for sale' notice on it for anyone passing/driving past?
I would feel totally gutted as well. Wish I could think of more places where you would at least get some money back for it.

Will post again if I can think of anything else. Whereabouts in the UK are you?

Brrrr, we all seem to be covered in snow today, ha ha! Jon loves to play with our piccies

Have you got a garden, so that your son could use it outdoors instead - it could possibly be covered up or protected in the winter months? If you are planning on giving it away anyway, at least this way your son would get some use from it before it rotted - or would give you more time to sell it on later

Sutton school
table tennis club in Raynes Park
rosehill table tennis club
fusion

If I have got your location correct there seems to be a few sports clubs, table tennis clubs etc. for you to contact.

Get your local radio or newspaper to ask charities etc?

1. keep it on ebay, on buy it now with best offer and be patient. Be clear in the listing it's new but is for collection only.
2. Your local auction house might agree to enter in a sale it if they do a general sale or house clearances. They would be able to collect it for a small fee.
3. Advert in local supermarkets/newsagents. Many do a community noticeboard with a for sale section. I bought a moped I saw advertised in Tesco once.
4. Promote it all over your social media.
5. a local "man with van" type service would probably be able to deliver it somewhere nearby for you for a lot less than a traditional courier, if needed.

In the meantime decorate it with tinsel and don't beat yourself up over the mistake.
