I need to update my 'tax spreadsheet'

I have an accountant to sort stuff out for me, but to keep costs down i do a spreadsheet and the reciepts myself, he just charges me for the hour or two to input and make sure it's right.

Although i just realised I'm going to have to dig the paperwork out from my exam marking *groans* I need to use my filing cabinet more.

is there a reason why you have an accountant?

I've never bothered with any of that because I just funnel all my online earning income through my HSBC account and then I just create a statement for the last 12 months on money that has gone into the account and bam, that's my number that I tell HMRC

I feel more comfortable with one. Obviously if you're happy without then you don't need one.

In the midst of having a baby (DID YOU HEAR I'VE HAD A BABY LOL) I had almost forgotten about the tax year :) Spending some time online today while Daisy sleeps to get myself all caught up ready for submitting tomorrow (hopefully).

I think in the time it takes for me to get all the required information from my employer I'll be trawling through bank statements/Paypal and working out what I did earn online. Oh, and setting up something to actually track it properly this year!

just funnel all your online earnings through one separate account

get everything you do online paid into that

then just do a statement for deposits/incomes for the last 12 months

that is your total

takes 2mins

I have a question on Neobux earnings. How do you record these for self assessment purposes? I earn the money and reinvest it back into neobux. I have not taken anything from my account yet. Am I putting a figure in as earnings and another as costs so that it zeroes itself out?

I would personally go for putting it down as money earned and then an expense back out again, as long as you keep a record of this.

I'm sure that isn't what everyone would do, however I prefer to try and do everything 100% with HMRC, even if it isn't something that would lead to me paying tax anyway.

HMRC are the only organisation I know that take longer to answer the phone than to sound an email out asking for their money :D

I do as well, I don't hold out much hope though, I'm still waiting to sort out my details from LAST year because work messed it up so much, currently repaying tax I don't actually owe because work messed up my expenses and HMRC take over a month to reply to each document I send!

You can get the numbers you need from your final March payslip. Gross earnings, tax paid should be in a year to date box and items like tax code and employers PAYE reference should be on the payslip too. If you have any benefits (medical cover, car etc) then you will have to wait for another form - a P11d)
