I found out this morning that I have a case in Coventry at 10.30am tomorrow morning. Since I live in Newcastle upon Tyne, an overnight stay in a hotel is the only sensible option.

If someone else was paying I would find somewhere comfortable, without being too cheeky. Alas, I am paying the bill tonight.

Lastminute.com and a hurried booking led me to a £30 per night (net of cashback) double room in a central location. So far, so good.

On the train I foolishly decided to check tripadvisor. Big mistake! I don't think I've ever stayed in a 2 star rated hotel before! Check out the reviews for The Britannia Hotel, Coventry.

It is certainly a very tired looking hotel on top of a bus station and full of contractors. But, the room is no worse than those that I've paid £80 for in the past.

Hopefully, I will survive the night without getting dysentery or the plague.

What is the cheapest hotel room you have ever stayed in?

Holiday inn express

Stay in them in both Bristol and Norwich

Use the 3 4 2 or 2 4 1 codes and it is £25/£30 a night for the three of us including breakfast

Nice.
I am not brave enough to eat here, but at least the 3G signal
Is excellent.

Just had to relocate the 1980s TV so that I can actually see it.

Does it have a dial?

Teletext perhaps ?

Do your company pay you back your expenses?

I am self-employed so pay my own expenses unless I can charge the client. Can't charge on this occasion.

Doing my bit to combat the "fat cat lawyer" stereotype tonight!

Hope it isn't too bad.

We stayed in an £18 a night hotel in Birmingham. It turned out to be in the red light district....oops.

It was functional and it was what we could afford. It was clean, the bathroom was bigger than ours at home. It was certainly a LOT nicer than the £90 hotel room we stayed in for a wedding a few weeks ago.

we went to Blackpool once for a weekend and stayed at this total craphole of a hotel.

Left 3 hours later due to a 'family emergency'

Just thinking about it now... ewwwww

this was before the days of tripadvisor

Poor you, I come from Coventry so I know the hotel you are talking about. Yeah I wouldn't be keen to stay there but having said that, there are worst places to stay in Coventry.

Well I have just booked a late deal holiday and was feeling very pleased with myself for getting it cheap until I read the reviews on tripadvisor and now I am a little scared lol

It wasn't cheap - it was 50 quid 12 years ago, but it was horrific. You'll prob know it The Reward Guy, Rooms Inn in Elswick.

No loo seat, suspicious looking stains on the sheets, a minging kettle, legionnaires disease more than likely in the shower that was hanging off the wall, I'll not even mention the dude that was managing it.
