Another update: all going well so far. I've done 5 parties in people's homes, a handful of mother and baby groups and 2 residential homes I've made on average about £45 a party after expenses. I am putting time into this , maybe an extra 4 hours a week, at the moment by approaching groups, homes etc. but as I said before completely stress free. I'm still happy so far. I've got further bookings from my parties, so am branching out into new social groups. I've spent more of my commission on building my stock up so that I can have stalls at the local school fairs.

I know I will not make mega bucks from this job, but compared to working in the NHS, where my childcare bill would be £80 a day alone, the money from this flexible job is so far going well. I'm very lucky to have a good manager, and I think I have a good business head which helps (none of the other consultants keep excel speasdsheets of commission, expenses, miles driven etc).

I'm happy to talk to anyone interested in joining- just PM me. Unlike most people recruiting I'll give you an honest opinion of what's involved and profit made.

I have found an aspect of this job that I really don't like. The constant top down (managers to consultants) barrage of 'sell, sell, sell, book more parties, find new recruits'. They seem to do the hard sell with us too. It's driving me up the wall. Does this strategy actually work with people? luckly my manager is not like this at all. She's down to earth. But I could see this being the downfall to my enjoyment of this job.

Your self employed - can't you just tell them to sod off?

That's the bit that surprised me. It's sold to you as 'run your own business', but then I have to tell my manager all of my party dates. It's difficult because I do appreciate having someone there who is helpful and offers practice advice however, find it quite annoying when they are over involved. I suppose I need to accept the interference in order to access the support.

A lot of MLMers are a lot like Bad Parents,

"Do as I say not as I do" and bark it at you.

a better approach, one grossly underutilised, is the "Follow the Leader" approach. The one where the Leader is making an effort to show everyone on the team what they do, and how they do it, and how well it is going, and then just leaves it up to the team members to follow or not.

Thats the approach I will be aiming for in my similar type of venture.

That's the way I tried to do it' just lead by example, I wasn't any good at bullying people into making more sales and I didn't see why I should have to either. At Avon I was a team leader myself and was largely left to get on with it by myself as long as I kept in touch with my team and did amonthly report for the area manager on what the team were doing . but at s&d I had an up liner who was on at us all the time' on the phone, visits to the house, on email and social media and endless team meetings, I found it a massive turn off and didn't find it motivating at all and it was a big factor in my decision to do my own thing rather than continue with s&d

Hi, another update. I'm still enjoying myself working for The Body a Shop at Home, I've got 8 parties booked in for May already, so should get about £500+ commission on that. Getting parties is the hardest part for sure, and like someone daid on here, hounding friends is not the way to go, people get fed up with you. So my new tactic which is working well is to speak to people at churned play centres and play grounds. I simply ask if they'd like to enter my free prize draw by completing a quick questionnaire. About 50% want to fill it in, and of those 50% are interested in booking a party. I was nervous to start when doing this because I didn't want to become a person who harassed people, however feel fine doing it now because so many ladies are happy and glad that I told them about the opportunity to host a party and get lots of free and discounted products. Fingers crossed that I will now make more bookings from the parties I have booked in, so won't need to do this as much.

The most difficult part of the job is the uncertainty of how much money you'll make- I can't rely on this as my main income yet, but I'm hoping in the next 12 months I will be able to. I also struggle with people being very rude to me when when out talking to people. But I've now realised that that's just part of the job and not to dwell on it.

A very good part of the job is meeting other consultants and party hosts. It is actually a fun job, especially compared to working in the NHS, I'm actually coming away from parties feeling happy. Also- no childcare costs! It would cost me £70 a day in childcare if I worked in a normal 9-5 job. So saving loads!!!

I'm still doing my other work at home stuff but on a lesser scale. I just don't have the time until little one starts playgroup and I have a few hours free in the day.

Well done you for having the balls to approach strangers in the way you are doing to get your bookings I don't think I would be able to do that! I know, the cost of childcare! Who even earns that sort of money in the first place?!

Just in case any of you are considering joining The Body Shop At Home, the Commision has improved, and a new career plan has been released. You can now earn more money each month. Commission is now 25% upto sales of £600. Sales between £600-1200, you get 28% on your total. Then for 1200-1800, you get 29%, then 1800+ is 30%. These percentages are on total sales. Eg. Sales = 1000: commission is £280 (28%). There are also other massive improvements, such as a new computer system, which will enhance your business.
PM me if your interested in more info.

I am a consultant for the body shop. I don't do great sales wise and i have never done a home party but the way i see it is i may as well have the discount on a brand i spend a lot on anyways. Would love to do more parties but i have had no luck getting any booked since joining at the beginning of October.

Hi [member=3106]Bexta140790[/member]

I don't do Body Shop but I do Younique. Have you tried online parties? You get a bigger reach and the hostess doesn't have to worry about being...a hostess ;)

Update: I worked for TBSAH for 3 brilliant years, got to Senior area manager with 75 team members and 5 managers, earned a great amount of money per party ranging in average £50-100, with my top party earning me £700!! I also won/earned 2, 5* all inclusive holidays- Bali and Mauritius. Plus 3 UK based overnight stay and Ball. It was great whilst it lasted, but I became bored, found it not stimulating and didn’t like the constant 24/7 pace of it!

I’m back looking for new ideas and adventures......

Fantastic to have you back on board!

Was it really work 24/7 for parties that only paid £100 (was that after fees, tax etc?) if so that must have driven you mad!!

The management side was the bit that took up the most time, having to be ‘on call’ to help newbies and team members whilst they were out partying. Never having a weekend to myself was exhausting. There were no fees as such. I earned 40% of my sales. Plus you win a LOT of free products which I managed to make a few hundred from each month too.

But it was Perfect for me at the time. My little girl started school in September, so I have more free time now in the day. I’ve started doing TV/film extra work which I LOVE! And have signed up todo ‘role play’ work (acting) to help train how to deal with people eg: giving medical diagnosis etc. Both are as hoc, so I need some filler jobs to get me few extra hundred a month.

Glad to be back :))
