I went to a Body Shop party on Saturday at my friends house and got talking to the consultant about how profitable it was for her. I was surprised to find out that she made £50+ from each party, which takes about 2-3 hours. There are also lots of other freebie for the consultant depending on how many sales you make per month. She does one party a week, usually Friday or Sateday night, and makes £250+ a month. She said it's easy and not a lot of extra work outside of parties.

I am seriously considering giving it a go, especially as the startup cost is only £20 and the moment, giving me £175 worth of products to use at the parties.

Has anyone else worked for Body Shop? I'd been keen to hear all of your opinions, good or bad. Thanks.

Can you talk a bit more about these parties. How much effort / time / cost is involved for you to earn that £50 (is that profit?)

I'd be interested to hear if there is any scope for men with this. I've got a couple of body shop products but when talking about the parties I generally only hear about women being involved.

I've actually signed up now. I figured that I don't have much to lose and will give it a go. I've already got 5 parties booked in. I'll make 25% on all sales, plus the company give away generous bonus products each month for sales at £150, £300, £600 and £1000. And I've been told doing 4-5 parties a month will easily get the £1000 figure. I could even go down the career path and recruit my own team. My manager makes £400-£500 a month, just from her teams sales!!

I'll report back in a few weeks and let you know how it goes.

Do you know who your regional manager is?
We have men sellers we have at least 5 in our region although it is rare. We go into people's houses with our kits, playing games & generally talking through catalogue. It is so easy

It's easy until people get fed up of spending fortunes and don't book the parties......

Don't want to be a party pooper (pardon the pun) but Body Shop have constant sales and stackable codes that if I was a user of their products I wouldn't get them from a party.

I have met a few Body Shop consultants who have said that their sales can be a bit hit and miss...as with any party plan business I suppose. The team leaders/managers/whatever they call themselves, basically the upliners, the ones who recruit I have heard do very well with Body Shop, I'm not convinced the consultants do as well...but I agree with you, if you fancy giving it a try, now is definitely a great time to do so while it's only £20 to sign up. Good luck with it if you do decide to go for it :)

Oh, I've just spotted that you've already signed up! Hope it's going well for you :)

My personal experience of selling party plan was that it was very hard, if not nigh on impossible, to book parties...possibly because the concept is a bit outdated nowadays, reminiscent as it is of the Tupperware parties of the seventies and eighties....the other option when selling party plan is to book stalls at fairs, tables at charity events, that sort of thing but there is almost always a cost involved...£10-£30 is normal and some places will charge a lot more, into the hundreds and thousands depending on the event....charity events will often want at best a percentage of all sales on the day and at worst, all your profits on the day in return for a table with them. And even with everyone after your profits, sales at these events can be very hit and miss...a lot of people will look but not buy...in my company they used to tell us these kinds of events are great for networking, not so great for sales....parties in people's homes, when they have a glass of wine in their hand and their friends are all buying stuff so they end up buying stuff too, often the same things their friends are buying, are the best places for making sales...but obviously that doesn't work when you're struggling to book the parties in the first place...

I thought I'd give an update. I had my first party last night, at my own home. I'd been collecting orders from baby group and school mums beforehand, and managed to achieve £306 in sales, giving me £75 in commission. I had paid £20 for my kit, a further £11 on extra ( at my own choice) like table cloth and party game prizes, a £10 on 2 lots of postage. Because I hosted the party I got £25 of free products for my kit, plus I chose to spend a further £30, to get £100 worth of host rewards. Total spend: £71. Meaning I have £4 in profit, with a very large amount of new products that I can use at my next ( already booked) 9 parties!!! I probably won't need any more kit for 6 months, so all commission will go into my bank, not invested into my kit.

I'm really, really please with how easy it is. I had thought that the party guest and customers would be reluctant to buy, however so far everyone says they love Body Shop and can't wait to get more products. I think this venture might just work out for me. Also: completely stress free and actually enjoyable (so far anyway).

This to me shows that if your friends are the right demographic you can do well

Typically with this sort of stuff you start off with your friends and if you gain traction there is probably gives you enough confidence to push on

As a bloke I don't know anyone who uses body shop products (or if I do they don't tell me!) so I am out of luck from the start

Likewise if you are a female who's friends just don't use this sort of stuff I imagine getting started with these sort of things Is quite a push

Yes I agree, my friends have been very supportive so far, And that has helped a lLot. However just telling people in the playground that I'm a consultant leads to people telling me they use Body Shop xyz and asking if they can order from me. Also, I'm going to approach other sources like retirement home where people often can't get out to go shopping or buy presents, Ive worked for 12 years with vulnerable adults so know how to not exploit these groups. Also probably another 15 mother and baby groups locally that I'll approach. Also I'm going to go to a wedding fair and offer bride to be pamper parties. So I am putting thought and effort in, but it's easy so far.

sounds like you have lots of great ideas good luck with them all, glad it's going well for you, yes, you are absolutely right Jon, to start well you need friends in the right demographic for your product, that's how party plan is supposed to work, friends book parties then at their parties their friends book further parties and so on

Is it difficult to get repeat parties? A friend worked for Oriflame years ago and by the time she had been round all her friends to have a party it was hard to get anyone else to. Everyone was stocked up and could not afford things they did not need right away.

I have tried to approach different groups of friends, and will be approaching new groups eg. Baby and toddler, yoga, residential homes. I imagine you're right, that one party is enough for someone, so I need to branch out and get bookings else where. I'll report back in a few months when I get a feel for it

at s&d we were told that your biggest fans will probably host 2 parties a year for you. the trick to it is to get your friends hosting, then your friends friends, then your friends friends friends and so on. Your idea of approaching different groups is a good one, it's just a question of tapping into the right ones, someone I know at s&d got started that way with a local kids dance class one of the mums had a party for her then that created a buzz around the parties and another had one, then another, then another...and then these women also went on to host more parties and become repeat customers
