Who have the best WI-FI for working at home? I was looking at Virgin but it is best to go for the third package or the middle of the range ok?

Or is there other companies that offer just as good WI-FI. Interested to know what is best for working from home.

Cheers.

I think offerings these days is all much of a muchness and it tends to come down to price and the quality of support you would get

I've never had home WI-FI as normally just tether it from my phone but I now require a stronger connection. Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Cheers

You probably can’t go wrong with bt, sky or virgin - though I do wonder about installs at the moment as I don’t know if they are sending people into properties to connect the internet (though they probably are!) so just make sure to check that as you don’t want to place an order and then have to wait 2-3 months for the install

The Virgin speed seems to the best from what I can see. I know someone who has had an installation/upgrade, and they went into the house with Virgin within the week, but they are a current cust.

Yeah, will need to check the date, I'll give them a bell.

Cheers.

Virgin cant be touched for speed...no one comes close, As for the Wifi it is fine, i havent had any issues with it (Good speed all over the house).. I guess BT/Sky are as good (but with lower speeds) only one i would seriously warn to steer clear is Talk Talk... terrible speed, awful value for money chronic customer service... honestly better off with carrier pigeons really

There is 3 available. Do you think the second or third option would do?

Noticing there has been a Virgin outage.

It depends how much speed you want really the 200mb should do most people, if you are a heavy downloader then the 350mb is only a fiver more on broadband only... There was indeed an outage today (they all have them) TBH it was first time in months mine went down and was only 15 mins... I you get Virgin dont forget to check out Top Cashback to get good cashback deals

Have to agree here

With sky we can get about 60mb and with Virgin we have 300mb and apart from area outrages the connection is rock solid!

Thank you. I just want to get the one that is best for working at home, webcam etc. I'll decide tomorrow if I'm going to go for the 2nd or 3rd package.

Didn't think you could get cash back with that already being an offer.

Cheers.

I had a quick look at TCB and seen Virgin cashback, its true you may not qualify for whichever product you go for (if you do) but no harm in checking it out.. if you get it great, of not nothing lost... I am on the 200mb speed and i have all manner of stuff running off it (3 computers,2 mobiles, heating, lights,i only watch TV via firestick, smart speakers, cctv cameras, gaming console and loads more and genuinely never have issues apart the very rare downtime like yesterday current speed just now is 187mbps (have even seen it above 200 on occasion.. So unless you are likely to have far more stuff using it than i do the middle one would suffice. BTW dont be fooled into thinking you NEED to have a virgin phone line and TV package ...you dont..you can get broadband only

It's never that simple to compare when it comes to like of Virgin and Sky who make it cheaper to get phone/net/tv together than separately (assuming you are fussed about TV). Certainly for me it's cheaper to bundle all three and not even have a telephone plugged into the line than to buy just tv and broadband from virgin.

Been with Virgin for ages and pretty happy - do loads of multiple Netflix / Spotify / YouTube and two adult working from homes at the moment with little problems. (well ignoring 5:15 last night it seems it was a bad day in the office for someone at Virgin Media when something disconnected VM users nationwide from the internet for about ten minutes.)

On cable the download speeds can be much faster than services using a 'BT line' (sky etc that use the BT Openreach phone cable into your premises) but uploads tend to be slower - I get 10meg up on virgin cable - were as 20meg up is normal on BT based lines.

Install might be a big problem. If were you live has recently had Virgin and the cable is still installed they do now offer self-install. If it's a new line not sure what they are doing with engineer visits at the moment.

Anything else BT line based - if you've a functioning line and don't need an engineer to come in to your property you'll get a self-install fine (BT Openreach will just do the connection in the street cabinet.) If you need a new line the official line is that they are only sending engineers to install critical services, so you may struggle to get a new domestic line installed.

My normal recommendation for BT line based broadband is Zen Internet which I've used and had excellent results with on various business lines for years. Traditionally Zen were a business ISP but they have been ramping up their home products recently.

Also look into Three's mobile network based home broadband product. A friend of mine has this and says it works well for him.

Thanks for replies.

I ended up opting for Sky, felt that would be sufficient for my needs for now.

I will probably be writing about Virgin in a different capacity at some point so that was putting me off joining them even though I thought they were the ones to go with. Plus also got that weird feeling sweep over me, like a warning (sorry if I sound strange) but experience proves I need to 'listen' to it.

Although the airlines are in trouble, Google states RB only owns 15% of the media side now, doubt that would impact it.

Have to say though I don't think this thread is for Greenpeace lovers.
