So I have this idea.

There is a LOT of fantastic content on this site and I feel i need to harness that content to better promote the site. Members come here and write fantastic guides that maybe with a few screen shots would really be useful to people.

As I have mentioned before, In its original incarnation The Money Shed was a blog. I setup a nice looking template with Wordpress and some SEO and away I went.

Since so much of the 'working from home' community (Mumblogs etc) is blog based I want to connect with them better and a forum maybe isn't natural crossover fit for them.

So I had this idea

I create
blog.themoneyshed.co.uk
Which would update with a new post every Friday about a different method or topic about working from home or being frugal or whatever.
The content would be in a style of 'forum post of the week' type thing. The blog would advertise the forum heavily and at the bottom of the post would be a link to the particular thread the post was on so that people could continue conversation there (sort of like how TouchArcade works)

The main idea behind the concept is to highlight the great content we have here and give it more exposure.

my questions are

would duplicating forum posts to blog.themoneyshed.co.uk hurt how Google sees me at all?

Do I move the forum from www.themoneyshed.co.uk to forum.themoneyshed.co.uk and have a sort of 'gateway' page for both the blog and the forum when you go to www.themoneyshed.co.uk and again, would that hurt my Google ranking for a while at least?

There has been updates since that article was written - pretty much anything Matt Cutts says in one update is made obsolete when the next update comes around. I would personally say perhaps change wording slightly if you can to avoid it being seen as total duplicate content, run it through copyscape as well - its better not to take the risk if you can avoid being penalised :)

I agree to some extent, but here is Matt Cutts' latest answer >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQZY7EmjbMA

Loads of good stuff on the Google Webmaster Youtube Channel btw.
Forums might be treated differently? Ask him a question about it ;)

You are right forums might be treated differently however I know if it was from blog to blog, then it would be duplicate and could cause all manners of problems. Probably best to check it out thoroughly :)

Thanks for those links

spent some time this morning watching those videos. IT really does seem that there is another world out there in regards to site promotion above just creating good content on your blog.

Question

Sometimes when I login to Google Webmaster it shows something like 350 pages submitted 345 indexed is fine

other times (like right now) it shows

350 submitted
1 indexed

any idea what is going on there

I still am of the mind that blog.themoneyshed.co.uk has some legs to it with some kind of 'post of the week' type structure to it.

The way Wordpress handles SEO compared to this forum I would hope would be better and should be able to gravitate traffic over given enough time.
