Just fired off an email to a company as I am writing a blog post which I was going to link to them but then I thought I'd see if I can get something for it! I wasn't sure whether to ask for payment straight up so I chickened out and said "collaboration". I know they do affiliates but I want more :p

If it’s a straight promotional piece You are offering them

Paid advertising on your site
Backlinks
No doubt social media promotion as well

All of that should cost them money so the way I would go would be

I would like to write a blog post about yourselves and was wondering what budget is available. Obviously include your media kit with your stats / demographics etc

Thanks @Jon. I will definitely use that approach in future. This particular post is a list one where the company would be mentioned in one section so wasn't sure whether they'd only pay for one exclusively mentioning them. My mediakit isn't great at the moment - especially as I moved sites recently - so just chugging away at that to get it back up.

As an aside, do you think businesses would pay for sponsored posts on other business sites with blog attached - not just purely blogging sites?
