I was thinking about this earlier

The major downside to being super money saving / frugal is that you can end up feeling guilty if you spend an extra £3 getting a Finest pizza from M&S instead of the pizza you don't actually want but it's been marked down to 90p

The number of people I see raving on social media showing off their 4p lime and cheese flavoured pizzas as if they wanted the item in the first place is insane!

Do you think there are some areas of your life you can be frugal in and others it's just not worth cutting corners for?

Coffee and spreads would be my main ones. Clover is my favourite and it is often on offer so that works out well and with coffee it is Douwe Egbert or Carte Noir, so again not too expensive.

Most other things I will get a middle of the range product.

Downside for me is sometimes I see a picture and realise I need to go clothes shopping as my threads are looking shabby and I won’t have really noticed or thought about it as I don’t routinely shop for new stuff every other weekend as some of my acquintances do.

I love tea and it's the one thing I'll moan about if it's not the right one. Assam is my favourite and it works out at around £1 for 50 teabags which isn't cheap in the long run because I drink so much.

The other thing is my daughter, I will go without to make sure she has what she needs and like you @Jon with the guilt I can often feel guilty buying something for just myself so buy her a little something too. Haha.

For me being frugal, some people regard as being tight, I avoid any work collections such as retirements, special birthdays and pregnancy, today for example my work is supporting a charity and were selling cakes, managed to avoid paying for a slice, hard work dodging it all day but somehow managed.

If I see the coffee I like on special offer I will buy several and that keeps me going until the next time they are on special. I never pay full price for coffee.

I don't buy value toilet paper!

I also DO pay to rent movies instead of stealing them off the internet.

I pay for 'premium' tickets when I go to gigs so that I'm not miles away from the acts.

I also live in London.

Life is still about living. :)

Work collections make me shiver sometimes!

Least of all as I never seem to carry cash on me, much less when I'm at work and you get looked as like you are a piece of crap for nothing having £2 to donate to their bake sale or whatever it is at the time!

I hate work collections. I pop to the loo to avoid the begging bowl, usually of someone I have never heard, never even met,...

Sometimes I prefer the cheaper option, for Saturday pizza night I'm quite happy with the Asda ones rather than Domino's or takeaway... or I can always do an MS if we fancy a treat!
Then there are things like toilet paper that we will get when the nice stuff is on offer and stock up, I don't mind taking my packed lunch in most days or try and get a lunch shop but I don't feel that I'm missing out on anything by being frugal most of the time, whats the point of earning all this extra money online if you can't treat yourself now and then?
I think if you get into it too much and you're trying not to spend anything then theres more chance of slipping up somewhere, If you're more careful with your spending and still allow yourself the occasional treat that you've saved for then I don't feel guilty about it. I'm not really bothered about most brand names but it can work out more money savvy in the long run....I'm currently saving for a MacBook instead of buying a cheap laptop cos I know it will be well worth the money that I can earn from it!

I think I've always tried to swap to the cheaper brand where possible but if it isn't quality or I know my family won't eat or use it then it isn't worth the value.

I also have the guilt with regards to the money making apps. For example, if I go to the shop and don't accept a spot with StreetSpotr because I am in a hurry. I used to use receipt hog and take photos of all of my receipts but then start feeling guilty if I'd accidentally binned one. So, yes, for me there is such a thing as frugal guilt!

Moisturisers and eye creams etc. I will not cut corners on those, but when my fav brand is on offer I'll buy extra and wait for the next offer. I saved £15 last week on those.

My vaping supplies: I generally wait for an offer code to come through and bulk buy as well.

I'll rotate my shower gel, crisps and snacks etc according to which are on offer. Coffee - never frugal here, it's my Mum juice!

Craft supplies as well are not worth scrimping on. My quilting and embroidery fabric costs me a bundle, but I try to buy when on sale. All of the amazon vouchers and paypal payments I've received have come in handy as I rarely spend my own money on buying them.

Many products I am happy to spend money on as it saves in the long run;

Decent classic well-fitting winter coat
Decent winter shoes/boots
A good haircut
Farrow & Ball paint
Good classic furniture

I agree totally on the coat and boots. Being wet and/or cold is miserable.

I agree. I'll do my research don't get me wrong but i am more than happy to spend a bit more when it comes to items which are going to be around for a long time.

I've never found Farrow and ball to be very good at all. Their range of historic colours I used needed three coats whereas I managed with just one using Dulux.
