I thought I would start a forum with tips on how to save money off bills during this cost of living crisis......every little helps!!

As I bake my potato tonight....it made me think that I should share this small tip.....

Microwave your potatoes first (make sure you prick them or they will explode!).....and then bake them in the oven and this will cut down on the time needed to bake the potato.

I also use a steamer that stacks several pans together, so I can cook several different vegetables at the same time on the one ring rather than needing to use several hob rings.

Just to add....If anyone is thinking of swapping Energy Suppliers here is my Octopus Energy referral link where you can earn yourself £50 for swapping using my link.

I have been with them for several years now and am one satisfied customer. Also...for some reason my energy bills have not gone up??, and I have built up quite a bit of credit which should come in handy for when bills increase.

Just been looking at various news sites today and most have talked about costs of running ovens, air-fryers, microwaves etc. We've just about decided on an air-fryer (we've had 3 or 4 microwaves over the years and I find them generally usless for anything but heating up peas). Our oven is electric so I could do without running that too much.

I too have read that air fryers are more economical than using a conventional oven. Slow cookers are an alternative idea too.

Yep I know a lot of people planning on buying air fryers. I'm unsure as no idea how to use them, are they easy to use?

I do not have one, but I reckon they should be. You can get one's that are like mini ovens, and some you can fit in a whole chicken and roast!

I've got this post FULL of tips: https://katykicker.com/air-fryer-tips/

And one FULL of recipes too: https://katykicker.com/air-fryer-recipes-uk-what-can-you-cook-in-an-air-fryer/

Air fryer recipes are pretty much my speciality.

My number 1 tip is to start with 20C less than the oven cooking temperature, and 1/2 the cooking time. Then build up to 2/3 of the cooking time as that's always pretty much the max you'd ever need.

They are cheaper to run per kWh AND they are quicker. So win win!

If you've got some specific questions @ me here or message me on Instagram (same name) if you want a quicker response x

Air fryer is a misnomer. Its just a fancy name for a convection oven. I use mine pretty much every day just in place of my normal oven. Its quite a lot quicker and does use less energy. They don't hold a lot though so if you're cooking for more than 2 people it might not be suitable.

Yes I been looking into airfryers but obviously they are limited capacity wise as to how much you can get in them.
Thry look good and with just two of us it would save putting the oven on when we only need it for one thing.
I reckon I would need a minimum capacity of 4 litres which would cook one thing for the two like chips and it looks like it would cook those faster than an oven would.
I don’t want a huge one either as I don’t want it taking up too much worktop space.
B&M stores do a couple of Tower Airfryers at a really good price and the Tower ones get good reviews online.

Watched Jamie Oliver's new programme on making meals using one pan....I know some of his ingredients can be pricey, but some good ideas which could save people money only using one pan.

I did spaghetti and meatballs in my Ninja the other day using the pressure cooker setting - turned out amazingly - and so much less stress than cooking everything separately.

So I was trying to work out what my utility bills will look like under the new tariff of my current supplier, my bill for August was just under £100 but if I were on the standard tariff it would be £236. That's quite a difference and imagine what it will look like when heating and lights are on. I am off to sweep the house for any unnecessarily plugged in devices.
