I once had a book for sale on Ebay called Spon's Mechanics. It was a do-it-yourself type book that told you all about photography, making things in wood, firework making and so on. As 'Spon's Mechanics' no interest at all. I relisted without the title and simply said, MAKE YOUR OWN FIREWORKS. I had lots of bids and it went for good money. I have done this with other items. Listed a 'Rocking Horse...with an EVIL grin'. There are always a lot of rocking horses listed so, needed to make people look at mine. With tools I sometimes ask a question, 'anyone know what this is?' If a can't identify something you can bet your life there is someone out there that does. Had some unknown, kilogram weights once with hooks in the bottom and had no idea of their use. Had about three replies and they were knitting weights to keep the wool tort. So, consider your title line, it can help make a sale.

yeah I 100% back this up as I've done it myself.

Your ebay listing title is the first chance you get to grab someones attention so injecting a bit of personality into it does no harm at all!

Some things that annoy me though:

People who list everything as "rare"
People who call anything over 10 years old "vintage" or "antique"
People listing anything vaguely silver in colour in the solid silver section
People who write WOW!, L@@K or AMAZING in their titles.
Overuse of capitals and exclamation marks generally!!!!!!!!

The rare bit I do agree with, especially when there are lots listed lol

You'd hate me! Although if I list something as rare I do actually take the time to see if there's any others on eBay first.

I am like you Andrew. For me to list an item as rare I try and track down another on ebay or on the 'net in general. I always look to see what the competition is like before I list anything.

Exactly the same as me. I always look through the eBay current & sold listings to see if my item, or even vaguely similar has been on there before. And then if it hasn’t I put rare and list in the description that I haven’t seen anything like my item being sold there.
