***SPOILER ALERT, SPOILER ALERT***
If you live in or near a major city, can type at a minimum speed of 80wpm, have your own laptop, are professional and presentable, and still have all those amazing English Language skills to hand, you could be a super-duper notetaking hero, typing for us at live events for £15 per hour of your time! If you do type at 80wpm or more, please have a go at http://10fastfingers.com/typing-test/english and then send a screenshot of your score and your CV to careers[member=545]takenotetyping[/member].com with the subject 'NOTETAKER (plus the city you can notetake in)'. We'd be particularly interested if you're based in LONDON, MANCHESTER, LEEDS, BIRMINGHAM, NEWCASTLE, EDINBURGH or BELFAST.

Fast fingers to the rescue!!!

Figured I'd have a go : http://10fastfingers.com/speedtests/generate_screenshot_result/1_136_680_0_0_127_0_99.86_229_159057

229/159057 in the last 24 hours - not bad :)

I could definitely go faster as well!

Not got the time to take on anymore work but always fun to procrastinate for a minute or two ;)

That test told me I had a typing speed of 105wpm when I tried it before applying to Take Note, but sadly the typing test I took as part of the application process was more like 75pm. I was still fairly impressed with myself to be honest ;)

Live notetaking jobs come up as and when, Jon, then we send them out to the team to see who wants them. :)

Yes I am enjoying it thank you ;D I've had feedback for my first two files and on the whole I'm really happy with it. It is quite slow progress - mainly because I have to double check the guidelines quite often to make sure I'm formatting everything correctly, and because I haven't really got to grips with the transcribing software yet... but I do really like what I've done so far. Hopefully the speed will come with time, and I might invest in some foot pedals if it continues to go well!

That's brilliant news! Well done! Are you using hot keys at the moment?

I'm really glad you're getting on ok. As I said to Cat, I have heard some good feedback about the company. Once you are used to the guidelines etc, you will be flying through them!!! ;)

Yes, I'm using hot keys at the moment. I discovered the F12 hot key on my last file (it plays for a bit, pauses while you catch up, and then rewinds a few seconds before playing again) but unfortunately F12 is also a shortcut key on Word so it can be a bit of a faff if you need to rewind to double check what's being said!
I must say that while I was very daunted by all the things you have to remember at first, but it does sink in and they all seem like a really friendly bunch of people. I'm glad you've heard good things about it :) Are you thinking of applying?

I have researched typing from home for a while but I have RSI in my wrists so I'm still not entirely convinced it's a good idea. It's a shame because I'm a bit strange and love typing :) I might try it later on but my father is poorly at the moment so I don't have any spare time.

That's interesting about F12 and hotkeys! If I were to start typing again, I would have bought a foot pedal but both you and Cat seem able to use hotkeys so I would probably try that first and see how I got on.

If you like the work and the people you work for then that is half the battle! :) Keep us updated as to how you are getting on :)

Perhaps it's not the best timing for you, as you say, but hopefully the option to apply will always be there :)
I love typing too... it's actually really satisfying to see it come together! I need to buy Office (at the moment I'm on a free month's trial so I need to make sure I don't have any gaps when that expires) and then I'll start thinking about foot pedals I think.
Has anyone else joined recently as well?

Well, unfortunately I've handed in my notice :( I feel quite sad about it but there's just too much going on in my life - lots of stress in my main job etc - and I can't do it justice right now. I think that if I was freelancing full time it would be great (as long as I had the patience to work at improving my speed, which I think footpedals would have helped with!), but it was just too much of a commitment ontop of my other job unfortunately. Good luck to anyone that's thinking of applying! They do seem like a friendly, fun bunch of people with lots going on :)

Oh no [member=670]serenlas[/member] ! That's not good :( You gave it a go though and hopefully in the future it might be something that you can go back to? Did you buy Office in the end or give it up before you spent any money?

I hope something comes up that suits you better :)

I hope I can go back to it one day if I find myself with more time to allocate to it :) We'll see. I didn't buy Office thankfully... must remember to cancel the trial! I think I just need something I can dip in and out of as & when rather than something with a minimum weekly requirement, for now.

Hey [member=670]serenlas[/member]

Sorry to hear you have had to hand your notice in - Was the option not there just to do less work but at least keep things ticking over with them?

It's a pain when fulltime work gets in the way of things isn't it ;)

There was the option of doing less work but it was still a weekly commitment and I think I'd much prefer something that I can dip and out on when it suits me, really :)

Started my application for this and doing the copy test when I get home this evening. Fingers crossed I get accepted! Would be very interested in doing this a few times per week! :)

Update: Am now on stage four of the recruitment process - trying to get to grips with the hotkeys, and the formatting by doing a few practice tests before I go in for the real stage. I am quite enjoying myself!

I passed all of the assessments for this and have received my email to say I've passed and they want me on their books, am so pleased (and, honestly, slightly surprised!) ;D Really enjoyed the assessments and have a typing speed of around 75-80wpm and am going to continue reading through their formatting guidelines so I can work as efficiently as possible. I'm hoping there will be enough work from this to justify me entirely working from home, alongside other bits and pieces, of course, as frankly I'm at my wits end with my proper job.
