Turns out I was confusing things - no Home Bargains round here I was thinking of Brand Max Outlet Depot - I managed to score something I should be able to make money on regardless!

Got some posh shower gel RRP £20 for £3.99 which I should be able to sell for approx £15 on ebay - another seller as this price and they are selling, I have a couple of fragrances they don't have which is good!
Do you have any tips about packaging toiletries like shower gel/shampoo for postage? I'm a little worried the plastic bottle might split ifdropped and also that the squeezy top tap bit will get depressed and shoot out a load of goo mid-transit!!
Sold one of the shower gels for £15 free p&p. Was beginning to think they wouldnt sell at all but there you go!

Interesting Read. Especially about you renting space for stock. Are you looking to empty out your house or is this just for 'overflow' stock?
aye, wonder how much a month that storage space is costing? Is it near by or a bind to drive to and go and use?

Both - gets me space in the house but also gives me the flexibility to buy auction job lots and store them - although I've nearly filled the unit already!

It's right by where I drop off my parcels :) £130 a month although I may need to upgrade to a bigger unit soon at the rate I'm filling it!

jeez sounds like things are really taking off for you! Is it quite hard to balance 'buying new stock' with 'selling enough' to the two things marry up and you don't end up with a load of stuff you can't sell?

I hope you've got a lot of space for that.

Its about that £160 a month for 100sq foot round my way.

at what point would it be cheaper for you to kick-out your lodger? I know it works for some people but storage can end up being an expensive solution where for a simliar cost you might be able to have built a shed in the garden or something.

Biggest challenge is finding the time to list stuff. So now I list everything I buy within 24 hours of purchase (unless I'm stockiling it for Christmas).

God if had a a shed full of stock the scrotes would have it robbed blind within half an hour of being put up! The lodger brings in £420 a month at the minute - if I got the biggest storage unit available it'd be £170 so still worth having a lodger for the time being. Althouogh I'd love to exand urther ang get a warehouse and actual staff one day - but that's a distant dream

Ah...I understand about the robbing issue.

Good to see the lodger bringing a healthy amount (Blaze it!)

I've learnt a lot from you already so thanks!!

P.s. Thanks may be rescinded if my pile of shame gets too high ;)

Quick question for you Andrew.

Picture the scene; you're in a shop like home bargains or something; there's something you haven't ever sold before but it catches your eye as you think there might be money in it. A quick ebay search shows the item in question - being sold for £10 - typically is selling for about £20. The shop has at least 5 or 6 in stock.

Assuming you've got the funds, how many are you buying?

Do you grab the lot; get one and see if it sells or something in between?

Thanks!

Probably none to be honest. The margin wouldn't be high enough for me. I'd want it to be selling for £25 or more on ebay - then I'd probably buy the lot. Hope that helps.
