So my electricity is with First Utility and I think I switched to them around December last year because they promised to save us so much.

Last few bills have been £36-£42 a month. Not sure if this is good or bad or what. 4 bed house, 2 adults and 2 toddlers. Gas cooker and gas powers the shower etc.

Anyway, yesterday the DD went out the bank - for £293. I checked the bill they'd emailed a week before and that's right - they've itemised the bill adding on an average of £30 a month since December. And added it up and TOOK THE FULL BALANCE now. FFS. Not impressed.

That'll teach me to check each bill and not just assume it will be a similar amount to previous months.

I used to work as a utility broker a few years ago (more commercial than domestic) but it was amazing how many big companies don't even bother looking at their bill, so I imagine there's lots of domestic customers who don't too. Good job you checked yours, because the energy companies are making enough without giving them money for free!
