Viewly is a video sharing website like YouTube but unlike YouTube, it's decentralised meaning there's no particular rules you have to follow. Another thing is that you get paid in "view" which is an ERC20 token, which is basically kinda like pence pounds view/ether.

You earn view by "voting" your view to a video. The more view you get the more you earn. (In your wallet it will show you how much you got converted to euros)

They give you a bit of view and eth to start off with, but you need to spend a bit of eth to upload videos and stuff (i think it is like 0.0000016 eth.

There's no referrals so I'll just link ya to one of my videos.

To withdraw, you need to send your view to an exchange, trade it for ethereum and then sell the ether for pounds, but I'd probably hold onto the ether since it will go up in price eventually.

(The reason it said 1,957 view is cos that's how much I've earned so far but I've withdrawn em)

True. They got the backing of Google by their side. I'd say the biggest competitor is vimeo but i only used that when YouTube was blocked in school a few years ago. Haha.

They didn't get the backing of google very much then. I searched for your video on google and all it brought back was unrelated youtube videos. The same search on bing went straight to it.

I think the only way a video site could compete with YouTube if it was very niche and had specific features which would cater to this audience.

But even then YouTube has the convenience and audience with the added bonus of video hosting for free (it must cost an absolute fortune to run when a 10 minute HD can be a couple of GB)

oh yeah. I get what you mean now. It's hard for anyone new to compete with the big companies (google, amazon, ebay) isn't it.

Very good point ... but also proves the niche point, Twitch is specifically created for live streams (with a heavy focus on gaming - (and now creative streaming - so tempting to start a Twitch channel for my animations though not sure anyone would watch me moving a lego figure, taking a photo and then moving it again hehe).

Also would be interesting to see what Instagram are going to be doing with Instagram TV - vertical video designed for mobile phones!
