Only discovered this today but due to the fact that Virgin Media and O2 have merged you can get a nice upgrade on both sides of the coin for FREE (it's not a new contract)

O2 Side
If you already have or are signing up to Virgin Media broadband and an eligible O2 Pay Monthly plan, then you can get double the data on every eligible O2 Pay Monthly plan in your name, in your household. Please note that if you already have unlimited data on your O2 plan, the benefit cannot be applied.

Before Supercharged with Volt

5Gb > 10Gb

10Gb > 20Gb

50Gb > 100Gb

100Gb > 200Gb

250Gb+ > Unlimited

Virgin Media Side
If you already have or are signing up to Virgin Media broadband and an eligible O2 Pay Monthly plan, then you can get a broadband speed boost up to the next available level (if you aren’t already on the fastest speeds you can get in your area at the point you place your order to become supercharged with Volt). Please note that if you already have Gig1 broadband or you are already receiving the fastest speeds you can get in your area, then the benefit cannot be applied.

Before Supercharged with Volt

50Mbps fibre broadband > 100Mbps fibre broadband

100Mbps fibre broadband > 200Mbps fibre broadband

200Mbps fibre broadband > 350Mbps fibre broadband

350Mbps fibre broadband > 500Mbps fibre broadband

500Mbps fibre broadband > Gig1 fibre broadband

Random question: my flat has a BT Openreach socket but no active line. What does an engineer need to do to activate Virgin Media fibre broadband? Is it a simple socket installation or drilling cables through the wall?

Line from the brown box on the road to the front of your house (might already be there - if you put your postcode into the VM website does it say you can have cable?) > drill through wall into living room > plug in set top box

I'm in a 2nd floor flat. It says FTTC is available, but landlord/agent wants images or an idea of what it involves. Virgin sales staff don't seem to know.

Hmm if you are in a flat and the building already has a cable to it then there should be minimal drilling - could they not drill from the outside or are you high up?
