FINALLY

Now we can have some sense around the home automation world!

The highly competitive tech giants Apple, Google and Amazon have announced they are teaming up in an effort to make smart home tech easier to use.

The firms, along with the Zigbee Alliance, will work together so that smart home products are compatible with many different smartphones and voice assistants.

Ikea is among other companies involved.

One analyst said the move was a "surprise" and showed the companies were willing to "play nice".
Manufacturers have often had to choose a particular voice assistant with which to make their device compatible - a smart speaker that "works with Alexa" but not Siri, for instance.

To take an example, Hive does not yet have Apple HomeKit integration, which would allow its wide range of smart home products to be used with Siri and the iPhone's Home app, despite having promised to add the functionality for years.

It says they aren't going to start talking until Sept 2020 ughhhh

If it wasn't the fact both Tado and Hive can work fine through Alexa on our Echo and Sonos It would be driving me mad as well. We never have to go into the apps to do anything and can instead just tell our speakers to turn lights on / off / dim / turn plugs off / control heating etc

All my Ikea stuff has stopped working for the moment. Thats a pain. I will need to re-add them to the hub and THEN to the Apple Homekit. I've done it once before but I just need to get the motivation to do it again.

Seriously considering getting rid of the Hive and just getting the Honeywell kit that works with Apple Homekit.

But seeing as my heating is on 24/7 at the moment, I'm not too bothered which 'app' drives it.
