Hi guys,

Been thinking about making a living wage at home rather than working the 2 jobs like I do atm,

Ive always wanted to buy and sell stuff, but not sure what can keep me above the living wage consistently.

another question is wheres the best place to start and how much money to spend in the beginning?

Thanks for all your time

Callum

The advice I've seen from the likes of @Andrew and @Dick Barton on here is to only invest what you can afford to lose.

So if that means only starting with buying £20 of stock from a car boot then that's what you start with

can you make a living off car boot sales?

You make a good point, thanks for the advice :)

I'd take a look at Nic and Andrea Hills on youtube and join a facebook group called the tat chat if this is something you're interested in exploring.

Has anyone experimented with buying and selling liquidated/returned stock at all?

The risk seems to be you get a lot of crap in with the stuff that is worth having and electrical items can be a bit of a gamble.

This is something I looked into and can be very hit and miss from people i knew personally who did this. the thing is they usually sell in joblots so that could be bad because you may have to store for a long time and might not sell it all.

Hi Calamander
Although I am now retired I would suggest that you give it a good go part time to start. Learn as much as possible by doing research on ebay to see what sells. I don't do clothes, but if you look at Nic Hills and Andrea they do quite a lot. Most of my stuff comes from car boot sales. A little comes from charity (usually books) and sometimes jumble sales. Don't dismiss these as I have had some very good finds. As I always say, knowledge is everything. Try and concentrate on areas where general dealers are not so knowledgeable (books for one). Always happy to help.

Hi Dick,

Thanks,

How do you find Jumble Sales? I know this time of the year isn't great for carboots especially in my area. and we only have one charity shop.

Where I am they advertise them in the local paper. Keep your eye open for flea markets (indoor type car boots) as these can, sometimes, yield results. My maximum was £3 per item and I still try and keep to that, although I am experienced enough to know when to break it.

I meant to say, you might want to get a good shredder as I use a lot of shredded paper. All the junk mail goes through this and some newspapers.

Haha, ok I will have a look at shredder ASAP :)

eBay auctions are a great place to pick up shredders for a few quid on local collection only! Pretty much everything in my house seems to come from eBay, Home Bargains, a charity shop or a car boot sale now. And of course it all goes throuogh the books as stock for resale as when I see something better I sell it on.
