I’m looking for some reliable sites that offer work for beginner proofreaders. I applied for TextRanch mailing list, and it made me consider if anyone else has any valuable insight to offer?

Thanks, @Jon.

Hi, @wordsbyashlie.

Most of my proofreading work is via the one site you've applied to.

The other occasional proofreading work I do is from a few private clients. I gained those through a site similar to TextRanch that unfortunately closed down last year. When it closed its doors, some users got in touch with me.

I found that site (the one that closed) on Craigslist.

Apart from that, there aren't any sites I can think of off the top of my head (that I've tried). I've seen Scribendi mentioned, but as I haven't personally used it myself, I can't say much on it.

There's a blog called Real Ways to Earn Online that lists 25 companies that hire proofreaders/editors, including Scribendi: https://realwaystoearnmoneyonline.com/editing-and-proofreading/.

Good luck.

Thank you for this! I might try a few of them and then post a review of them!

Can I ask if you have your own personal site, like a portfolio of your work? And if you do, how instrumental is that in gaining work?

:)

You're welcome!

No, I don't have a site/portfolio of my work.
Hi. Could you explain what the process is like once you give your email with Textranch please?

Thanks!

Hi, @nate99. The process is different from when I was taken on three/four years ago. It involves taking a test. If you pass that, you're invited for a trial period in which you go through training.
