I was just wondering how everyone is feeling about the coming increases in living costs. I have already noticed that my weekly grocery shopping is a lot more expensive than last year. I am fortunate enough to find myself in a position where my energy tariff is fixed until 2023 so I am at least isolated from energy price rises. I am quite worried about society as a whole as households were already suffering financial stress before all of this!

in summary, it sucks

Our weekly shop for 2 adults tends to be around the £80 mark

I filled my car up with petrol on sunday and that cost nearly £60

Our energy bill is a joke!

Everything just costs too much and because I am self employed I don't have a 'cost of living' increase in my wage which just means I need to work more!

Doesn't help we have a Government full of rich politicians who really don't understand why a £20 rise in food bills is a hammer blow to some families. I read a Twitter post that summed it up perfectly ' £179.60 is the full pension per week whilst the House of Lords attendance allowance is £323 PER DAY'. How did we get to this point?

I am uncomfortable with having a multi-millionaire as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Not to mention a cabinet chock-full of privately educated men and women who no doubt couldn’t tell you the price of a loaf of bread or a pint of milk. It’s wrong.

I’m about to put mum into residential care, and I’m relatively lucky insofar as (barring social services pulling the plug) the cost will be deferred until mum dies and the house needs to be sold/I can get equity release to pay off care costs, and hopefully her pension will be diverted to cover the running costs of the house as I’m still living here. However, unless I turn the garden into a private allotment and sell a heap of crud on eBay to put into a “bloody hell I can’t imagine what the next fuel bill will be” fund, I’m going to struggle.

I’ll have to work more. Much more. Thankfully, I’ll be in a position to do so. And mum will be guaranteed warmth and three square meals a day.

A single person over 25 claiming Universal Credit gets £324.84 a MONTH to live on.
To eat and pay their bills including Council Tax.
Rent is separate and may not cover all the rent.
That £20 a week that Rishi gave then took away made a huge difference to many people.
Taking it away is cruel and callous.

Yes I think it's cruel and ultimately self-defeating, you make people desperate and eventually they will do something desperate or there will be civil unrest.

I've been saying for weeks that I'm quite sure it'll all kick off later this summer. People seem to be very angry, including people that never thought they'd see the day they'd join in a protest.

I think it's scary, and of course, it won't be those that made the decisions that get hurt, it will be ordinary innocent people. I really hope we can find a way to help each other out of this mess.

On bbc look north just now they had a guy in a flat who has turned off his gas and is filling a bucket of water off his electric heater to do the washing up etc

It’s all so sad and just compounded so much more because of the last 2 years!

This cost of living crisis has hit me in two ways, one good and one horrific. The good way is that it has made me reassess my spending and I have cancelled a lot of things such as my Netflix, Disney, and my amazon prime music. In removing those I saved 17 pounds as the price of Netflix just went up and I just don't use any of them.

The bad way is that my tiny 2 bedroom house that used to cost me £65 a month for gas and electric now costs me £145 and I literally sit under two covers and can't afford to have my heating on for more than an hour. My nose is constantly running and I wake up some mornings shivering.

Food costs I have gone from having my normal brands to using asda smart price stuff and with a bit of seasoning, it is all OK and you get more bang for your buck.

The heating costs are awful aren't they, surely they will have to do something before next winter. I managed to get my phone bill cut in half, so that was a big saving. I don't think I'll be upgrading for a while.

I read Martin Lewis' latest email advice and the main takeaway was to heat the human, not the house. So I am assuming the use of water bottles, electric blankets, gloves and scarfs indoors.
I saw on the Panorama programme last night that they are giving gloves and wooly hats out now at the food bank if they can....

Thankfully it looks like the weather is improving but yes I imagine that they will be needed in October.........

You are right about the heating bills and they are due to go up again in October. I don't know how people are going to cope.

I bought my son some gloves and a body warmer which you can power with a power bank and it heats up

"Heat the human, not the house" Got me thinking. I was going to try this over winter but I never got round to it as it was not too bad for me. What I discovered was heated jackets.
If you go to Amazon and type in Heated Jackets you will find a range of jackets and gilets which have heating elements in them which are powered by a USB connected power pack.
I think I will be investing in one of them for the coming winter and bought and paid for by Amazon vouchers acquired from all the various surveys I have learned about on here, the Amazing Money Shed :D

I 've been hearing this heat the person not the house mantra quite a lot lately.

The problem is the house does need some amount of heating and ventilation throughout a cold winter or it will suffer with problems like damp, mould and condensation.

I assume there is a minimum you can get away with although I don't know what that is! Maybe an hour a day
