Obviously quite a few of us this week have had the rug pulled from under us with 63336 this week.

Expected earnings gone, plans you made have made assuming 'money' would be there to earn have vanished, maybe your top earning blog suddenly gets de-ranked by Google. So what do you do about it?

It sucks, I accept that, I've been here before many times, NONE of this work from home stuff is ever 100% secure.

Personally, I took a day off, regrouped and focused on A LOT of what is out there that would a) fit in with my lifestyle b) would not require much up front cash and c) pays out the most

Sites like this is a absolute god send when it comes to getting exposure to other opportunities that are available...

Has it gone belly up then? Sorry to hear that lots of people are in a situation where they need to look for alternative means of income. I think you did right to take a bit of time out and think about your options and I hope you find something that replaces that income for you soon.

For me, it depends a bit.

Ideally - ensure that none of my day to day living is dependent on an online source of earning, so online money represents fun money or savings. If I lose an income stream it'll hurt, but I won't be in danger of going hungry or losing the house while I look for a new one.

Make sure that I'm not completely dependent on a single source - harder as a good earner can dominate since you want to devote more time to the best prospect, but keeping lots of opportunities open means that you can switch track very quickly if one dries up.

If I do need to depend on the online money, make sure I have a good buffer in place. If I am in that position I assume that I'm paying tax, so keeping the tax money reserved ready for payment, and to use as an emergency buffer if everything goes wrong - after all if I suddenly lose my income stream halfway through the year I won't be paying as much tax!

You take a deep breath.
For every thing that has gone wrong you think of three things that have gone right.
You remember that even the richest person in the world will probably envy you for something, if maybe youth, wisdom, looks, wit, charm, but there will be something they envy.

Then after 48 hours and a gallon of tea. You get a pen and paper and get back to the drawing board.

Just shows nothing is definite online earning wise. Sites can disappear or things change but it does always take you by surprise as it usually happens when you are least expecting it.
You don't want to have to keep finding new income streams either or have too many especially when there is a time limit.
Difficult times but hopefully those who have been effected will be able to find something to replace that lost income soon.

Set up your own text answering service? I guess there is a clause in the t and c saying you can't. You'd have plenty of people who would work for you (us)...

On a more serious note, are you still continuing to work the same but for a reduced income? Or is it all over? Not 100% sure what has happened....

One good thing is that you have YOU to point you in the right direction, you have been so supportive to others on here, sourcing new opportunities etc...it seems to be what you are good and I'm pretty sure you will be matching your previous earnings very soon...

You pick yourself up and keep going.

It sucks. It's easy to say not to rely on it. In the past I've been in a position where I needed the money earned from online endeavours.

A few years ago I was living in Spain and had a young baby with another on the way. My husband was working all hours as a bar manager and labourer for 5 euros an hour. Literally he'd finish work and get home at between 1am and 4am, then be up at 7am to start work labouring.

I worked for Lionbridge, earning 800 euros a month or so, and then, I got let go one day, out of the blue. I still had 63336 but it was at a time where there were no questions at all. You'd be lucky to answer 5 in a day. I joined Hubpages etc and started selling reusable nappies but ultimately we had to come back to the UK.

Now I know a bit more about online earning (thanks to this forum in part). I know with hard work there are other things - PPH, articles, blogging, etc.

I think it is a relief to leave 63336 - the writing has been on the wall for some time. I have hopefully 3 other things lined up and am really pleased to to be moving onto something else.

Has everyone decided to leave them too or will you stay and see how it goes first?

I imagine it is a relief to leave and I am quite envious/proud of of those who have. However, I can't leave just yet. I simply haven't found a way to replace my earnings yet (and as I'm lucky enough to own my home, I'm not really entitled to claim much in the way of benefits except Jobseekers Allowance which obviously isn't going to cover the bills). Sooo, what am I doing? Well, having had a hugely teary panic on Thursday, I'm now working on my CV with a view to being employed out there in the big bad world again. I'm also in the process of signing up to Leapforce, Transcribe Me and Mumpower. Ideally, I'd like at least another year at home with my son who's 10, but we'll see what happens.

Just looking on their website

how much do they ACTUALLY pay an hour?

"How much do I get paid?
Transcribers are paid USD$20 per audio hour for general transcription, although different projects and specializations may offer higher rates. Please note that this figure (“per audio hour”) pertains to the length of audio transcribed as opposed to the length of time taken to transcribe the audio."

I have never done this sort of work before so I have no idea how long an audio hour takes (assuming you're a good typist) - does anyone else?

I think when we were attempting the other audio test the other week, someone mentioned they had a friend who did it an it worked out at about £6.25 per hour worked, suppose it would all depend on the individual....

That was Take Note, not TranscribeMe.

I registered with Transcribe Me. $20 dollars an hour of audio is $5 dollars an hour of work. If you're lucky. No way am I transcribing (hard task) for £3 an hour.

I know what I am about to post is not to do with online work but being self employed, income can be like a yo-yo. One minute its like wow, you make plans to pay bills off quicker and without warning a contract can end and then its omg. I have hardly any work at the moment but I know work is going to pick back up again from September/October as I have new contracts starting -so the thought of this is keeping me going - speck of light at the end of the tunnel!

We are lucky that my husbands income covers all the basics , we could never ever rely on my career to live on, but its still a heck of a shock to the system when your main contract ends and you are back to basics again and having to juggle stuff around .

I try to take each week as it comes and take work as it comes.

I did read some of what went on the other day and I really do feel for you all and wishing you all the best

Sorry for confusion, that's what I meant, was referring to the one we did the other week 'Take Note', quoting what someone had said in a post about what they're friend had earned.

So the Transcribe Me is not well paid in comparison it seems...

I registered with the isoftstone for the English transcription work that busybusy posted about yesterday. They didn't mention a rate however....

You know what the problem with a lot of these work from home companies is

They assume people will work for peanuts as there is ALWAYS a market for people who don't mind being paid so little as I suppose it's more than the £1 a day they earn from valued opinions

We might moan that the pay is not enough. It doesn't matter. SOMEONE will take those roles

Yes that is true there is always someone who will work for peanuts. There is always someone desperate for cash so the work at home companies can just keep reducing the pay as much as they want. Bad news though for people who want to be able to make a decent income online.
