That's why those who runs blogs / websites that earn money never have to worry

They just sit there while their audience brings money in

Exactly. That is why if you can get that sort of passive income that is the best way to earn online. The less you have to actually 'do' the better. :)

it's not just that though is it, it's to do with the control. You are in complete control of how much effort you put in in terms of hours and effectivly how much income you earn from it.

I've never used the 63336 or any other Q and A site for that matter, but people seemed to like it. The site seems to be still there, but all is not well I take it with payments?

I guess you're right but it's about living with the FACT of undervaluing other people and causing damage to their morale, through greed.

I personally couldn't do that to my workforce/people bringing in the money to me.

Yes true more in control that way rather relying on a business to give you work and pay you.
If you get Amazon Sales then that is handled by Amazon as far as delivery goes then you just get the Commission from that.
Reminds me I need to join US Amazon Site so I can use that as well as the U.K one.

You know what the problem with a lot of these work from home companies is

They assume people will work for peanuts as there is ALWAYS a market for people who don't mind being paid so little as I suppose it's more than the £1 a day they earn from valued opinions

We might moan that the pay is not enough. It doesn't matter. SOMEONE will take those roles

This is true of mums who start their own businesses too - there was a woman that was at the same craft as me pretty much doing a very similar thing and all her prices were cheaper... why? I spoke to her and it's because "I do it as a hobby and for fun, if I can make a little extra then that's good but most of the time I'm just earning the money I spent" was what she said.

...same for other craft makers, even fine crafts - there are always people willing to work for very little which makes it a lot harder for people who want to do it as a full time business!

I agree about the control of self-employment and freelancing. It is hard sometimes having the insecurity but I much prefer being in control of my hours and what I do (and when I do it).

I do sometimes panic when the rug is pulled but this time I haven't even had time because things are so hectic in my life at the moment. Which isn't actually ideal because I haven't had the chance to look at new option.... I should have some time over the next week - hopefully.

It helps to remember that, although self-employment is generally more insecure, having a permanent contract doesn't mean you're safe. I started working from home after I was made redundant (and then it so happened that things changed in my life that made working from home the best option). Until the redundancy happened things had been going just fine in my job and there had been little sign of the company struggling. So nothing's that safe.

Regarding transcription work. I've worked as an audio-typist in the past. Being a fast typist helps but what will slow you down is if you have difficulty understanding what the people are saying. Sometimes an accent might be strong, someone might be mumbling or speaking too fast, or the sound quality might be poor. It just depends so each job will vary in time taken to complete. It's definitely worth trying. It might not suit you but you might find you really take to it.

All these hints. :'(

Basically a train wreck happened and they can't discuss it as part of their terms and conditions on their contract. You might be able to piece it together from comments but I wouldn't worry too much :)

That's a massive problem with a load of crafts. I have a friend who's an amazing knitter, she's just completed a lace shawl with the constellations picked out in beads, it's stunning. It's taken her hundreds of hours and she'd love to make them to sell, but no-one would even consider the price tag that the level of work she's put into it would need, especially once you factor in a decent hourly rate for a highly skilled knitter. That's not even taking into account the hobby knitters recovering their costs (central european ones are the worst, their cost of living is so much lower that a hobby knitter there can sell for less than the uk materials :( )

I soo agree, with the crafts, no one realises how much time and effort goes into making an item or the cost of the resorces to make the item.

I used to make cards, started as a hobby and turned into a little sideline, but had to sell them at a low price to actually sell them as some would not be willing to pay what they were actually worth , especially the personalised ones. The time spent designing one off's is a lot.

I found I got to the point of being like a production line for hardly any gain and found I was no longer enjoying making them. I still make the odd personalised one, but only for special orders for those who appreciate the time that goes into them.

Also I can recall a time I had crocheted a blanket as a present for a dear friend and had put a photgraph of the blanket on my facebook craft page and one of my friends hinted she would like to buy one. When I asked her how much would she be willing to pay for the blanket if I was to make one she said oh about £10-£15. This blanket had cost me in resorces at least £30 and the hours I had put in? Well I shall say I spent all my spare time over around 2 months to make it .

I agree with the crafts. I made my little girl a Frozen tutu dress. It's turquoise and white tulle with a turquoise bodice, plaited arms, etc. And a cape. The materials alone cost around £13.50, and I put a picture on Facebook to be told "ooh, you could sell that for £10, even £15". Er, not likely. I know I could probably grab the tulle cheaper from China, but still.

I'm considering doing Christmas dresses. They will be at least £20 though, if not £25.
