My partners income is just enough to support us but we'd scrape by after my maternity pay finishes. I'd like to be able to buy nice clothes for us and goodies for my baby girl - maybe even a proper holiday as I've forgotten what one of those is like!

We want to have our cake and eat it ;) We both came from opposite family backgrounds.

Husband: His Mum didn't work most of his life, since his brother was born she developed problems so claimed DLA for most of the time. Though she could of happily brought in a wage at a supermarket (she had no problem sitting for hours on end, nattering to people). She kept that DLA for herself while her husband was out working a 13 day fortnight, having to pay all the bills, giving her housekeeping money and still buying his own shopping  To this day I don't understand why they never did a family shop...So even though they had their Mum at home all day, they were on a very tight budget.

Me: Both parents worked full-time. My typical school morning was going into Mum's work (bowling alley), helping her open up, walking round to my Aunt's who would then take us to school. Most weekends were spent either at my Aunt's, Grandad's or Mum's work. When my Mum moved away for work that changed to many nights staying in the hotel my Dad worked in.

I don't want to be my Mum in the fact I can't pick my son up from work, have to rely on other's to look after him which we would have to pay for and get no help other than the voucher scheme but I don't want us to struggle like the husband's family did.

Not that I need much motivation, but I do have my eye on a new build which is being developed near where I stay, so I've set myself a two year target and being able to contribute £30k to the deposit pot I'm fortunate in that, my wife has a decent job in the civil service and my online income is reasonable.

Health will always be my number one priority, but I like to set myself realistic targets and this latest one is my biggest to date, so it will be interesting to see how things pan out 8)

I hate wasting time on the internet but it's very addictive so I figure why not earn money whilst doing it! I like to have a focus so would prefer it to be one or two places but for the minute trying everything.

My reasons are varied but here goes:

1 - I'm in a job which is not particularly well paid, I'm also self-employed (which isn't an issue but may be when it comes to renewing my mortgage deal in two years' time).
2 - I work one week on one week off in Surrey. The house I own is in the Southwest. During my week off I stay in Berkshire (it's closer and works out cheaper to pay for a room plus help with some chores than it would be to drive to Devon, plus I have lodgers in my home (newly weds) so although I can return there whenever I wish I don't particularly want to live with a married couple. The lodgers are due to move in July so I will be down on that income and will need to replace it.
3 - I love the idea of working of working from home, or anywhere where I have my laptop and internet connection.
4 - I'm always online so may as well earn from the time I would normally spend just browsing.
5 - I need a new BOILER - this will need to be a new RE-SITED boiler as mine is currently an old back boiler which they no longer make - this will be about £3k
6 - I plan to buy a DOG, he is already like my dog as I look after him and walk him when I'm on my week off. Sometimes he comes to Devon with me. Things aren't right where he is at the moment and I know he'd have a home for life with me. However his owner is the type of person that would expect to be paid a lot of money for him so I'm saving a pot of money for the day I can HOPEFULLY buy him.
7 - Even with my lodgers paying for a room at present, my income only just covers my outgoings and that's just with a basic standard of living.
8 - I'd like a HOLIDAY as I'm not getting any younger and have only been abroad a couple of times.
9 - So the money would go towards A ROOM ON MY WEEKS OFF; A NEW BOILER; SAVING FOR A DOG ONE DAY AND A HOLIDAY HOPEFULLY. IF things really work out well then I'd like to start paying more on my mortgage!!

Haha I love your "dog" reason. But, I cannot understand why the owner would expect you to pay a lot of money for him. Is his fur gold? :)

My reasons are:

I hate my job. It's taking me all of my might not to fill this sentence with expletives about it. I want to be able to earn enough to not have to ever ever ever EVER go back to doing this job again.

I want to pay off some debts. Then the OH's income can be used purely on living, and saving for nice things. Like a wedding.

I do roamler and iPoll and shopitize. These don't earn me a great deal, but I want to use the income from these apps to pay for a nice crisp white karate gi which costs about 100 quid. Then I wont feel so guilty cos I've earned it.

Let's just call it pride with a generous sprinkling of narcissism. Dog was bought as a young (high energy) pup with no foresight to how it would affect the household and who would look after it given the owner works 12 hour days and also regularly works away for weeks at a time. There's a much longer story to it. The owner has never taken it for a walk and has had him for nearly two years. So wrong.

Sorry to hear you hate your job. I don't particularly like mine, it was never something I thought I would end up doing but life events and all that. Luckily the lady I work for is very nice and we get on well so that makes all the difference. Hope you find something else.

Good enough reason but they should just give you the dog. But, I admire you willing to pay for the dog.
Yes I bloody hate it lol. I don't just "particularly not like it", I cannot express my feelings of detest towards it without goings nuts lol. Not to worry, its my problem and I'll sort it, hopefully.

I think hating your job can always be a big kick starter for looking to find ways to earn online.

Sometimes it allows you to gain a certain sense of control which you may not have (and maybe one of the biggest reasons) you hate your main job.

I'm on maternity leave and currently in my 3 months unpaid.
When I go back to work it will be part time so it would be good to earn some more money from home and put some towards my debts xxx

For me I started earning money by doing little jobs (mostly web design and adverts) before I could legally get a job (outside of a paper-round!) and since then working full-time I've carried it on and picked up a few other habits having met my girlfriend (competitions, mystery shopping etc.), so it's almost habit! If there's time in the day where you could be making money, then why not? It's so easy now! You never know when you might need the extra cash, I certainly am experiencing this right now and thankful for the time I put in before to raise the extra income!

My daughter got me into earning from home in my spare time (mostly through competitions as she is very lucky with them - although I never seem to win) but when I stumbled across Quidco etc. it started becoming something of a hobby/habit to look for ways of saving/earning a little extra. We put it towards family holidays and you'd be surprised at the difference a few minutes here and there actually makes.

To have the flexibility to pick my daughter up from school every day. Then to rise to the challenge of being able to achieve.

For me working online is not about earning "extra" money as what I earn online is my only income, but it is a very small percentage of the overall household income.

I am Mum to three primary school age children and started working for myself online when my middle child was a baby. I need the flexibility being my own boss entails as my husband has a very demanding job which means he is often away overnight and sometimes overseas at weekends. He earns a six figure salary so the motivation isn't purely financial, but what I earn goes in the holiday pot.

With three children I want to be able to be there for school assemblies, sports days and to take them to Brownies, swimming and dancing after school. If I had a traditional office based job working 9-5, even if I were part time, I would not have that flexibility. My kids like it that I can always take them to school and pick them up, and that I always pitch up for school events. Also with three of them, if I had to factor in after school care costs with a "proper" job, I wouldn't earn as much as I can from the sofa.

For me it's about bringing in any money I can to help ease the paying of bills and help us be able to put a little aside for things like holidays and meals out. Our budget's pretty tight, like most people's these days, so everything helps!

Though also I would love to earn enough to buy some luxuries :-D
