I was thinking about this the other day, what actually got you into looking into earning money from home.

Was it curiosity, or was it driven by a need to earn some serious cash?

For me, It was a mixture of both. I started looking into Surveys and was GOBSMACKED when I earned £10 from Valued Opinions in the space of about 3 weeks. From then I suppose I just kept scaling upwards to Mystery Shopping > Smartphone Task Apps > Bit of eBaying etc.. and then I sort of wanted to maximize what I could earn but yet do the least manual work required which is why I ended up dropping a lot of the stuff I did previous.

So the need or curiosity to earn money online from home remained but I just wanted to do it in a way that didn't take up all my time!

I started off trying to save money, rather than earning money. I started when i heard about saving money on my mortgage by overpaying, and did some research on a new tool called "the internet". I started learning about credit cards, banking, mortgages and utilities. Several years later, a certain Mr Lewis launched his website, and it all just scaled from there.
i started earning online in around 2006 when i learned about matched betting, and while i dont bet any more, i still earn online, although as my financial situation has improved, i do focus less on it these days. Mostly, im very time rich now, which is lovely, but what i earn is mostly to pass some of that time.

Wow so you've been doing all this then from the start of it appearing on the Internet it sounds like!

do you think there is more opportunity to earn money online now then there was back then? Or is competition too rife so the pay isn't as much?

Match betting is relatively dead compared to how it used to be. Sadly the bookies have got much wiser. Its still ok from what i read, but has tailed off. I remember finding out about new bookies from Europe and America on a very regular basis on the Rpoints and the green site forums, and having to put some large amounts of cash in to some of them to maximise the deals ($1500 for one). I do feel that some of the regular offers are really good earners now, but they seem to be smaller amounts, and getting gubbed is far easier now.

Sites like prolific, respondant and few other similiar sites mean you can earn decent money. I feel the qmee/swagbucks type sites which pay next to nothing for your data are killing a lot of the better sites.

I love how cashback has grown, and is becoming more of a thing as time goes by. Also reselling is great, and is basically encouraging recycling, rather than the "throw away" generation i was part of (mid 40s).
The rise and rise of the internet has basically given birth to these things. People used to get there mortgage deal because the bank told them it was a good deal, and there were no other real options. This is the same for insurance, utilities, holidays, credit cards and pretty much any other thing you buy now.

I started with surveys and mystery shopping for a bit of fun really and then in 2010 knew that I would become unemployed the next year so started joining more companies. That was when I started the writing as well. I have been writing for one person since about 2012 but I was told she would not be around for a few weeks - baby was due - but have not heard anything for about a month so wonder if she has decided to give up. I am not sure whether or not I will look for a replacement.

There is more I can do with MB and have just joined Appen Hill. When I started working the understanding was that I would retire at 60 - 3 years away - but now it could be 10 years to go. I want to go at least 3 or 4 years earlier so will carry on as much as I can.

I had a part-time job and I wanted to leave that and work from home. I was trying to make £50 a week initially, and was surprised how quickly I achieved that, and then £100 a week.

I self discovered arbing (match betting without bonuses), while at university in 2002. I had opened a few online bookies account to place small bets on football/cricket, then noticed a one day cricket match that had very different odds and if I bet on both teams I would make money.
Everything else kind of followed from there.
